1330cc Is the First oil change at 600 miles still needed?

Hello
I am a new owner of a 2016 RT limited. I have been riding 2 wheels for ever. Every bike I own they recommend to have a oil change at 600 miles
CAN- AM suggest the first service at 3000 miles? what do you think? 600 miles or 3000 miles?
Thanks
Patrick

Manual says 3000 Miles

Manual says 3000 miles. My spyder tech said see me about 1500 miles for my newest, and about 5 to 6000 after. Manual says 9300 miles between oil change, but most don't go that long.
I generally have oil change at around 5000 mile intervals. 3000 miles will be fine. Ride and enjoy

I did the first change on our new F3 at 2,700 because we were going on a trip. I'm using Amsoil and am going to do oil analysis to see when the next change should be.

The six hundred miles comes in for all 998 two cylinder engines. The ACE 1330 oil change recommendations are break-in service at about 3,000 miles. THEN, additional oil change services at 9,500 mile intervals (after break-in 12,500 miles). The 9,500 mile interval also states that it should be done at a minimum of ONCE a year--for those that do not ride more than 9,500 miles a season.

A lot of riders do not go with the 9,500 interval OR the 3,000 break-in recommendations. Less mileage in most cases is not a problem. It is probably better for your :spyder:.

BRP would not suggest such a thing if the engines were not capable of the long intervals. Most are saying that the 1330 does not use a drop of oil during the 9,500 mile interval. A far cry from the add oil to the 998's syndrome. My unit does not use oil, so I am with the majority there. The 2011, 998 uses oil like all or most of them.

I have been using the 9,500 interval on the 2014, but last summer did only a couple thousand miles because of health. My 2014 got a spring oil change since the year was almost up. So far, at 24,000 no issues with my 2014 1330.

If you are doing this yourself ....... consider that MOST of the crap is going to show up at the very beginning of engine use ....... 5 qts of any really good synthetic oil ( Rotella T-6, Valvoline 4 Stroke etc ) is only going to cost you about $37.00 or so ...... You don't have to change the filter just the oil ....... IMHO , I'd do it ...... Mike

As far as the first oil change goes, sooner rather than later is the safe bet, as is sticking to the manual. Whichever way makes you feel better. Personally, I stuck the manual, but they can't ding you for changing the oil too early, only too late.

Now as to the 9500 miles interval. That's been proven here to be garbage through many people having their oil tested and analyzed through various labs. All you have to do is search around some of the old oil related threads and you can see for yourself. I personally have done lab analysis several times with several different brands of oils and they all have shown breakdowns in about the 4500 to 5000 mile range. I have the SE6 which I believe is harder on oils than a manual transmission and might account for the breakdowns. So, I just stick to this mileage range for an oil and filter change.

As to why BRP recommends such a long interval can only be guested at, but marketing probably plays a big part of it and engineering probably has nothing at all to do with it.
