Matuza Bags problems

Love the bags. Our roads here in Mississippi are terrible. While riding this afternoon right bag lock broke and bag came off. Hear it when it hit. Electrical wire didn't break. Minor damage to bag. Had some stuff to tie it up to make it back to the house. These locks aren't very good. Glad this happened before taking off to Spyderfest. Looked at other side and starting to crack. Going tomorrow to get stuff to mount bags to the metal bracket. Will be a little aggravating to remove them. But no lost to the bags. I had planned on leaving them on the bike at all times anyway. Plans to remove sides to check the battery connections before the trip. Was glad hardly any damage at all. Didn't sound good when I heard it hit. Also lucky I hadn't put stuff in the bags yet. For all who has these bags check your locks and maybe save you from damage bags.

I'll be at Spyderfest with mine. I had worried that this would happened. Of course I have my back shocks set on the highest setting. With taller 25/60/15 tire I would rub every now and then. So I upped the shock.

Mutazu bags

I broke a coupe of sets trying to mount to a two wheeler. If you make the mount cradle the bag, you might be ok. I have a tour pack from them that is still in the box from 06....and will probably stay there! I did see a clever idea: epoxy a ptfe cutting board to it, and then mount it. Stiffens it up and makes it stronger. Good luck with the projects. Joe

Plan on using conduit 1/2 inch pipe hangers with the 2 mounting holes and on the inside use fender washers.

Thanks for the heads up and sorry to hear you are having a problem. I got mine direct from the mfg but can't see why there would be any difference. I have been using them (heavily at times) with no ill effects. I just took a look and everything looks fine. Do you remove yours frequently? I think mine have only been off two or three times since I installed them. I do remember thinking that was the weak link in the design. I might take the latch mechanism apart after my current projects and see if that piece can be replaced with another made of aluminum, steel, or pfte.

IMO ( & lots of other people too) the Matuza bags have never had a very good reputation. Their brackets always seemed flimsy when compared to say Givi.

My wife has has the Givi bags on hers. No comparison. Hers are way better all around. I do like mine and the way they look on my bike. I knew going in the Matuza wasn't very well made. I think what broke mine is the crappy roads down here. We have some good roads, but just to get to them from my house is the bad roads.

I'm sorry to hear that you had a problem with them; glad to hear that the damage was minimal, and a fix is in the works! :thumbup:
Let's face it : No matter what they build: we'll always find a way to break it!

True but then $300 all in for the Matuza is significantly less than the Givis as well. The mount brackets are more than up to the test. The weak link is the catch mounted in the bag, not a very sturdy piece. Had there been a set of mounts for the F3 that didn't require welding or serious rigging I probably would have considered the Givi bags.
