• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I now that my battery needs to replaced, so my question is, is it worth the extra money to go with the OEM brand (Yuasa) or buy a different brand for less money? Has anybody had any experience with other brands and how they preform? Thanks.

I would stick with the OEM battery. Mine is a 2014 still working fine. Going for the cheapest battery generally not a good idea.

Whatever brand you buy, give it a full charge as soon as you install it. Dealers seldom, if ever, charge their batteries. It will last much longer if you bring it to 100% before using it.

I have always had to come back to the YUASA. There are many out there and some may be good but you can't go wrong with the original. You can get them cheaper online or just shopping around. :thumbup:
 
I bought a aftermarket -BS battery and it lasted 6 months. The shipper filled it and charged it and I don't think they did it right.
So why waste $100 on a chance. Get a real Yuasa factory filled and activated.

Yuasa all the way. Changed the first yuasa on one of my snowmobiles after 11 1/2 years in service. Still have two originals in service coming on 12 years. They are the same battery that fits the Spyder so purchased two new ones to replace in the Spyders {5 years old} and will use the ones I took out for the snowmobiles next season. Will have two 12 year old batterys for sale, LOL. They were all BS {bottle fill}. The trick is put them on battery tender 24/7 365 days of the year when not in use.

Wouldn't riding on the highway for 20 or 30 minutes give it a complete charge?

The magneto in your 2010 RT will do a decent job of keeping the battery charged; they just don't have to power to bring one up to a full charge in such a short period of time...
(I wouldn't even trust my 1330's alternator to do the job...)
 
BATTERIES

IMHO - How a battery starts it's life is crucial to how it performs and how long it will last ...... My buddy had a Yuasa in His Gold Wing for 10 years ... He bought it - He filled it and charged it per the instructions - during the off season it was dis-connected and put on a MAINTAINER - when He sold the bike 10 years later the battery was still working fine ... Thanks for all the thoughts. Just confirmed what I was thinking in staying with Yuasa. You normally get what you pay for and a battery is not something you want to cut corners on.:lecturef_smilie:
 
I like Lithium Ion

I've not had to replace my Spyder battery, likely partially because I use my Battery Tender Jr. after every ride. I tend to get many years out of batteries this way.

The last battery I replaced was in my BMW R1200GS and I went with Lithium Ion. It was smaller, lightweight, maint free, and had 4 battery terminals. I used one set of terminals for connection to the bike and the other set for accessories I'd added and my Battery Tender pigtail.

If I needed one for my Spyder I'd go LiIon again.
