I need help

I just ordered 5 led front headlamp accent lighting for my Spyder rt 2012 , I read the instructions and it was pretty straightforward thing to do , but when I opened the headlights I found something strange .. the housings for the led light was blocked with some kind of aluminum skid!! Any thoughts how to remove it ? Look like it's has been sealed from the manufacturer..

From looking at Pic #1. - that looks like the ENTIRE lamp assembly that goes where the DUMMY ASSEMBLY in the upper corner of the normal headlight unit is now !!!! ......... In most RT's they just have a FAKE cover that does nothing ( sort of a fancy chrome plug ) ( see if you can shine a light thru it , first ) IF NOT ...... What you need to do is to re-move that and then put your REAL one in and plug into the OEM harness connection that is nearby ........... Hope this makes sense ....Mike :thumbup:

It's the high beam headlights unit and I am trying to install the led light inside it as an option

Yes it's what you describe.. and I did shine a light thru it but it didn't go thru the fancy chrome .. I try to remove it but it's stick very well in place . I didn't try anything else incase I may broke something

It is strange that the instructions dont say anything about it. My guess is it is just a protective film glued in place.

I agree with you I double check the instructions but it don't say anything about it .. it's a hard piece of plastic skid or aluminum I think and it's look like sealed !!

mmmmmmm not sure , but with the spyder they sure make use of twist and turn out , a lot I wonder if the housing twist turns out away from the bigger piece ... ahhhh now I see where you new piece screws into old position... cancel my idea pretty quick ...

Was there anything installed there when you took the headlight assembly out? If so, what was installed there when you removed it you saw the metal round plate? If nothing was installed there, then I would think its some kind of a seal to keep water out of the headlight assembly. Just my 2 cents

Seems the instructions would mention the need to knock out the cover plate. Don't know if the foreign models are different in that area like they are with the fogs and turn signals. Might be something in a shop manual if you or someone here looks it up. It may require some cutting if it does not come out any other way..:banghead:

Nothing was installed , when I first open the headlight assembly I unplugged the main connector then I removed the plastic dummy mounting plate then I looked inside before i installed my new LED "which has its own plastic dummy mounting built in" and there was the metal round plate , first I thought the light will go thru it but it doesn't, I try to remove it but I couldn't .. I think the water is safe because there is the plastic dummy mounting plate from outside .

Thanks, Mike , I did all that you mentioned above except I couldn't remove the chrome plate in pic #5 .. if you removed it ? how can I do so?:bowdown:

I start thinking the same , maybe the models in our region come with different specification ? but the instructions that came with the LED did not mention that !

..... I'll answer both above posts ..... On mine ( 2014 RT basic ) that ENTIRE FAKE piece came out ..........If you have a Euro or Asian spec RT they may be constructed completely different than the North American model ....... only BRP can straighten this out or a Dealer ,......... I apologize for not realizing you are a member in KUWAIT, I'm sorry :banghead::banghead::banghead: ........ Mike :thumbup:

I am so glad to be a member of this community, Mike :yes: I spoke with the dealer , they couldn't offer any more help and yet they are very humble with the knowledge I even wanted to learn from you guys and do it myself :clap: its seems you are right it's all about the different reign models .. maybe just maybe I have to buy the whole new North America headlights unit just to fix my LED :joke:

maybe it will be the right thing to do , but I don have the gut to do it myself I never do such a thing before , eventually I will have to take it to someone able to complete the job .

They do it all the time for auto lights ..why not try the Spyder light??

There nothing to loose since he is talking about buying the US version
