• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Brake lights

Today, I rode spyder to sister in laws, parked it, went out to eat in her car, came back, it has rained very hard while we were gone, and still raining. The brake lights were on. I wiggled pedel, and they were still on. Started it, and let it run, and turned lights on and off, and hit pedel a few times, and still on. After about 2 minutes they went off, and worked fine. Wonder what was wrong. Do y'all think the switch got wet or something ? Working good now.

Doubt was the rain know the ST have had few switch problems. Let's start off with what year bike you got, & wiggling the pedal , did you lift it?.:lecturef_smilie:

It's a 2011 manual. Ya, I lift up on brake pedal, didn't seem to make any difference. I've had it for about a year, put 11000 miles on it since I got it, never had this happen before.

well , at least spurious ON is certainly better than spurious OFF.
I had a professor in an electricity/electronics class in college, he would probably call this a "SPUT"!

sounds like a stuck micro-switch.

I had the switch go bad in my 2010 RT... They're in a pretty vulnerable spot under the bike, and mine had ended up taking some road debris. :banghead:
I always wondered if some sort of semi-protective covering could be fabricated for them. :dontknow:

Road debris will do it. It happened to me and a couple Alcan Highway travelers. Brakes on to long, and you get Limp Mode. The :ani29: thinks you are riding the brake.

You will want to keep an eye on this. If the brake light sticks on while you are riding the Spyder will go into limp mode.

Give your bike a good bath and be sure to clean it in that area.

Sorry, but this a popular believe that brake lights being on will cause limp mode. Is not true. As is confirmed by my experience and by the system description in the service manual.

Riding with your foot on the brake will cause brake failure and limp mode but is not due to the brake lights. It has to do with the low pressure safety switch.

It did happen to me the first time as well as to a rider (BMW) on the Alcan. He had glacial till (mud) sticking the switch on. Crud = Limp Mode. I am talking about stuck actuator switch here.

I also did it by riding the brake (new pair of boots).

If the low pressure safety switch gets stuck on from mud. Yes the brake failure fault will happen. If you ride the brake pedal. That will activate the low pressure safety switch and cause a brake failure fault. The brake light switch stuck on will not cause a brake failure fault.
