• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Rainex on Spyder RT windshield

RAINEX

Use it on my 15 RT and have had no problems
Mr.Merrill, if the folks who created " RAINEX " thought the regular stuff was OK for plastic ( which they didn't )....then why did they create " Rainex for PLASTIC ".....At some point I think you will regret using regular Rainex on your windshield..............Mike

Well....

Use the for plastic version and only helps if you look through the windshield in the rain...

Yup!
Use the version that has been formulated for plastic windshields, and you'll have no problems.

Don't use it... and you'll have nothing but regrets! nojoke

washing windshield. ...

I bought a used '13 RT. Only one owner before me and he only used pledge even on the windsheild. Soon after I bought it we went for a 2 week riding vacation.

First heavy rain day the rain just slid off windshield . Then the windshield got full of bugs... We were at a Harley dealer and he recommended " bugslide". It worked great getting the bugs off and I was very happy.

2nd rain day... all the rain and mist stuck to the windshield. I couldn't see for crap! So they next Harley shop I bought "Z-clear". The next rain the rain did bead up but not as nice as original pledge coated windshield and seemed to wear off after a couple of hours.

Back home and time to give Bertha a good bath. Store didn't have plexus so I bought rain X for plastics. I sprayed it on windshield and it all clouded up and felt like I was taking layers off windshield. ???layers??? Layers of pledge I hoped??? Figured " oh well-maybe I am getting it really clean". A few more applications and same thing kept happening??? I was getting scared and got out the Z-clear... they cloudiness cleared right up... And I put Bertha in the garage.

Was I getting off layers of pledge? Or taking off the protectant coating with the rain x plastic? Next vacation from home I probably will take the pledge with me and at home I will use up the zclear... On the body I am staying with pledge.

I hate Pledge on the windshield. Leaves it all smeary looking when headlights refract through the layers of build up. Leave the furniture polish to the wood. Plexus on the windshield. A VERY close second is Lamonster's Black Dymond detail spray.

Pledge CAN leave a film...
...But with some judicious use of "elbow grease", and a really clean Chamois: it's not a bad choice!

PAPER TOWELS

Plexus is good but expensive.

Working on some windscreens that cost the price of several new Spyders, I have had the chance to use all sorts of approved products.

Plexus rates high and was kind of designed for aircraft acrylics. However, there are a lot of aircraft, especially high performance sailplanes that have the owners use nothing but Pledge. It does work very well but requires some hand buffing with a soft cloth. Many high quality waxes for cars that are not polishes work well also.

The stuff that is often miserable is Mirror Glaze plastic cleaner. It works but is difficult to buff off and remove the streaks.

Also, and this may be common knowledge here, choose wisely on the cloth for cleaning the windscreen. Paper towels often are too abrasive, but there are certain ones that are not.
. Paper Towels are made from " WOOD " ....use at your peril :yikes: .......Paul if you know of some that aren't please share...................Mike

Clean soft rag with warm water to remove bugs and another soft dry rag to wipe off the residual water and the windshield comes clean chemical free and best of all NO streaks or smudges. Plexas is good only when water and soft rags are unavailable. Try it you'll like it.
