onward with caution

The preparations for this trip started months ago.
Two times before I've made the thousand mile, in round numbers, trip to Springfield, MO.

And back.

This year, a bit older now, I'm hoping I'll be able to rise to the occasion and pilot Prometheus to another Spyderfest.

If the past is a predictor of the future I'll be running on pure adrenaline.

Depending on your point of view, departure will be very early in the morning or very late at night.

The beginning of the journey will be rural. Watching for deer, raccoon and bears on the road.

Later I'll be on a crowded eight lane rat racer watching the tires on the eighteen wheelers for signs of the casings coming loose.

I have had the experience before.
A rubber casing going 70 mph careening off the wheel going in front me.

It's terrifying.

Once you've seen it up close and personal you tend to become a student of the science of Tireology.

All those big pieces of rubber you see on the highway got there by being launched off of something, probably in front of somebody.

Beware, ryde safe and I'll see you there.

Be safe out there. I have no doubt you will make it just fine. A little older in the looks is fine as long as your youthful innards are still in tact...:roflblack: but do beware of what we call "Road Gators"...Enjoy the fest....:yes::yes::riding::riding:

- and, yes, I've seen an 18 wheeler tire explode - and explode is the only word to describe it! When I'm on the highway, now, I lay way back behind them, and, if I have to pass them, I go by like a bat out of hell - I minimize how much time I am next to them!

If one of those road gators hits you as it shreds off a moving truck, you are, most likely, finished, or in for a long, painful hospital stay!
