• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Mobile 1 oil sent off

5k Oil Report Back

attachment.php

May not be able to see it, but the viscosity is 10.4 at 5,000 miles. So it shears as well as the BRP, but not as much. I had 5k on the BRP semi and it sheared to 9.2. That may be hard to view. Had a bear of a time getting a picture from Adobe.
In summary, I will continue with the M1 4T and change it at 5-6k miles.

Thanks, Doc. Your sample held up better at 5K than mine at 4K. Am going to change this weekend at a little over 7K. I'm suspicious of the 4K result, almost the same as XPS Semi at 4K. One more run of Mobil 1 for me and then a try with Amsoil.

Are we still talking about oil here? I thought we were through with that and we could start talking about Sex (whatever that is), Caviar and the price of tea in China. :joke:

I still don't like that sheer even on the M1. I hope you have better results with Amisol. Unfortunately, it may be the nature of the beast with the semi-automatic transmission to shear that much.

I know that my investment in the 1330 is substantial enough to make me want to know what is the best oil and change interval to get the greatest life out of the power plant. To that end I will continue testing......

Anyone ever do an oil sample at the "BRP recommended" extended 9,300 mile drain interval?

I came close last year. Put on 8,564 miles on the BRP full synthetic (NTA trip)(29,475 on the bike). The report showed the viscosity at 8.78 and the TBN at 3.2. The same oil at 5,677 miles (20,911 on the bike) the viscosity was 8.19 and the TBN 5.1. The report on the 8,564 miles recommended running it to 10,500 miles.

BRP's Semi-synthetic at 6000 miles (9000 on the bike) had a viscosity of 8.36 and the TBN 5.4

Mobil 1 at 6234 miles (15,234 on the bike) had a viscosity of 10.56 and a TBN 5.5

I am now running Mobil 1 and will continue to changing at 6,000 mile intervals.

For shear strength and resulting viscosity breakdown protection, I think you would find a change from M1 to Rotella T6 would show you a significant improvement. It did for me.

youre saying the t6 sheared better than the m1? was that in a 998 or 1330? i have 2 xps
oil change kits to use yet. im only at 1300 miles. plan on dumping at around 2500. think
i should stick with can am semi for another change? i have t6 in all my powersport stuff and mowers.
the cars get mobil 1 10-30.
i dont want to mix semi and full sythetics even though i guess it wouldnt hurt.---irv toms

Yes, I am saying the T6 shows significantly less shear breakdown than the M1.

veeeerry eenteresting! tried it in my victory but went back to the vic semi. shifted better.
it used the same oil for trans too. thanks!--irv

was also an air-oil cooled motor.

Post the spec sheets from the oil analysis of both the Mobil 1 and the T-6. Show me and others what significantly is please.

I'd love to see that too. I know people are recommending T-6, but I haven't seen the actual testing results yet. Of course, I don't come here everyday, so could easily have missed it. ;)

The data you are looking for and lots more specifics is available at Bob's the oil guy web site.

While I have numerous used oil analysis reports on T6, I do not have any back to back comparisons with M1 Motorcycle oil IN THE SAME BIKE. But this specific use case has been covered over at that site.

My specific comparisons are between M1 and Delvac One and T6 in other more strenuous use case vehicles. The general recommendation I gave above is valid. In engines with high shear gear train or shared crankcase and transmissions, the T6 hold up to viscosity breakdown far better and meets all BRP requirements for the 1330 engine Spyders.

I thought Mobile 1 was instant death to an SE. Did I tead something wrong?

We use the M1 4T oil. Safe for semi-autos.

My last batch of M1 was sent off about a week ago when I did my trans filter for the 28k service. That oil had almost 6.500 miles on it. We'll see how much it sheared.
