There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

If it was mine......I would replace it. Do a search for rear tires and you will have hours of reading on which one fits and who likes what brand. Good luck.

Be a bit cautious on a wet road; hydroplaning becomes a lot more prevalent as the tires get that worn...

It's really sad that the OEM tire will wear out the middle like that with the sides of the tire with almost all the tread left. I'm just curious if a car tire will have the same wear pattern as the OEM tire. I know that with the bike moving at speed the tire will ballon out, which will cause the middle of the tire to wear more than the sides. Is there a secret in getting a tire to wear evenly across the tread width or is that just an impossible wish? I had a Triumph Rocket mounted with a car tire and the wear pattern was pretty much evenly distributed across the width of the tire. So I guess my question to all that have gone to car tires, have you experienced an even wear pattern across the entire width of the tread?

This has been the single-most heard complaint about Spyders... :banghead:
There appears to be little that can be done to prevent the center section of the tread from wearing out early...
Some folks swear by lower pressures, and others by higher! :dontknow:
Perhaps the new tires, with a different compound will be better.

Still good...for a bit.
Here is a Kenda at the wear limit after 16,000 hard miles. Being in SoCal I can still get a bit though the back end is drifting a bit more....I do have a new Arachnid at the ready and will be changing it this weekend....:thumbup:
as you can see you have quite a bit more left on your tire. Make sure you check it at the wear mark indicators. There is a little triangle on the sidewall close to the top indicating where the wear mark is....

Easy for us to say to ride with that tire. It all depends on whether you are comfortable. Having said that, I rode on mine when it was worn down like that and had zero issues.

As long as you are riding on dry pavement you are good to go. Any standing water and you need to be careful. You could have a memorable event!
This is why I run a car tire. Much better road contact and wear pattern. This picture of my worn out Toyo Proxes T1R shows a straight and flat the wear pattern across the entire tread surface. It is simply a matter of 4 tread belts on the car tire as opposed to only 2 tread belts on the Can-Am tire. 2 belts are not strong enough to resist both the air pressure and centrifugal forces on the center of the tire. The 4 tread belts also give you greater protection against blow-out (rare but still, not a bad thing). And my brand new Toyo Proxes T1R (discontinued) was lighter than my worn out Kenda. Not sure how that is but just the facts. Not to mention that they are almost always less expensive as well.

Hard to tell at that angle but looks like there is definitely some life left in it. and to quote Baja Ron of course the kenda are more expensive. IMO this is why Can Am recommends you only run Kenda tires, in exchange Kenda gives BRP a great discount on the tires they put on new bikes and then can charge whatever they want to the public for replacements because they have no option. I had my local dealer when i had my GS tell me they would not install anything on the bike but Kenda. However they are not a good dealer lol

My dealer also said the same thing, they would not install a car tire on a Spyder. BajaRon, I also ran a Toyo on my Triumph Rocket and the wear pattern across the tire was even. How many miles did you get out of the Toyo? I had over 25,000 miles on my Rocket was I traded and still had some life left.

I have the same problem as my dealer will not install a car tire on my :spyder2:. BajaRon, I had a Toyo mounted on my Triumph Rocket and the wear pattern across the entire width was even. I wonder what the reasoning is to put only 2 plies as opposed to 4 plies in the OEM tire?

Remember if you can get the rear wheel off most tire shops can and will mout a tire to your :ani29: rim and balance.

Ok guys thanks for all the help I have a michellin 215/60/15 ordered will be switching it out myself and taking down to a local tire place. Keep up good work you guys have all the answers... GOD BLESS AND RIDE SAFE...
