• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

RSS Ergo Help Please!

Hi all - We're new Spyder owners, just took possession of our 2014 RS-SM5 and are hoping for some input from you experts!

Our machine is mostly stock with the exception of a Two Brothers exhaust and we'd like to change the ergos for more long distance comfort for the pillion.

What we'd like to do is lower the rear footpegs and change (broaden) the pillion seat.

Is it possible to swap on the rear floorboards from a RT?
Is it possible to swap on the front floorboards/controls from a RT?
Any input on the differences between the "Comfort" seat and a Russell Day-Long?

We're looking forward to getting to know you all better!

:congrats:on your purchase, and welcome to the site.

Lots of knowledgeable individuals here that ride RS's; present company excluded.

I have just purchased the Russel Day long seat; should be shipping back within the next 2 weeks. You might be money ahead to get something like a Seal floor boards, that way you both can adjust your footing more comfortably; and they are made to fit properly. Will eliminate the need for cruising bars. Unfortunately those of us who still use a clutch get to pay extra for that privilege when it comes to floor boards. John the owner and inventor of Seal floor boards is a site sponsor and a stand up guy to deal with.

Good luck on your upcoming adventures.

Buy yourself a Green manual for your maintenance needs.

Might consider a Baja Ron sway bar if your are going to be doing mostly two up touring. Again a site sponsor and has alot of other outstanding items for repair and clothing needs.

Enjoy

Wife and I could only make it about 30 minutes on the stock RS seat before we started hurting.
Seat feedback is about the same as windshields, floorboards, etc.... each person has a different opinion.

I saw our dealer had a used RS with a Corbin so stopped by there to check it out. Wasn't bad for me but wife didn't like it (front position was too wide for her and rear allowed you to slide forward).
Dealer just so happened to have 2 RS comfort seats hanging on the wall. It was priced below retail at $459 and he took another 10% off so it was $443 out the door. Night and day difference.
If we were interested in backrests, I would probably have tried to talk her into a different seat but would have easily doubled the price.

Cannot help on the floorboards but I am sure a few others will chime in.
We are going to use the Kuryakyn mini boards which are 5"x4" with 3 mount positions. Require an adapter also.

Welcome welcome....

To both the spyder world and this site. Great choice in a spyder..congrats..:2thumbs: as mentioned above we have several floor board sponsors that can help you with that. I am not a floorboard type but did install the extensions for the passenger pegs from brp. These move the pegs forward and lower and installed a comfort seat. Can not compare but my wife was happy with the changes....

Congrats on the RS, We ride two up and have put 55,000 miles on the almost stock seat. We had the rear portion of the Seat modified they add a jell pad which gave my wife
a little more comfort ad for me I was good but I did add move the bars up and bars 4.5" helped out a lot we have completed a saddle sore 1000 ( IRON BUTT ) in 17 hr.'s.
So it's all what your comfort zone. I also installed the rear peg relocate and that helped the wife also. Enjoy the Ride and keep the rubber side down :thumbup: jtpollock

People say Motorcycle Dave can work magic with stock seats, and he's a site sponsor. Give him a PM and ask.

:congrats: on your RSS.

I tried two different seats on my RS versions. The first got a Corbin and the second got the BRP Comfort.

With Corbins, you either like them or hate them. It was fine for me and I put over 23,500 miles on the Corbin.

Cost wise, the Comfort seat is a better deal. I found the Comfort seat to be great for long trips. Both my RT's now have Comfort seats on them.

Seal Floorboards would be my go to (half the price of BRP). Don't know what to tell you about passenger floorboards on the RSS.

I love the Russell Day long saddle. Fits you! While not cheap, a long day in the saddle pain free is priceless!
Lots of floorboard options. ISCI makes some fantastic billet aluminum pieces, and are breathtakingly beautiful! They are also priced accordingly.
There are several options on bars, risers, backrests, and everything else. The key is finding what fits you and your passenger. Since we are just weeks away from Spyderfest, why not come to Springfield, MO, and see everything? Then choose, after seeing and trying and getting opinions?? Being comfortable allows you to enjoy the ride, and be safer. We travel, so the RT was a better choice. If you can get to Spyderfest, there might be 1 or two bikes there in stock form; all others have been modified to some extent! We are all different, so, mod to fit. One size fits none! With a few changes, it can be yours, and you will love it! Joe

Wow! What an incredible set of responses! Thanks every.:thumbup::thumbup:

Will ST footpegs/footboards fit a RS?

Will ST seats fit a RS?

Hi Trbayth,

Re: People say Motorcycle Dave can work magic with stock seats

And I am Comfort Keester proof of that. Thumbs up for Dave

I used the ISCI floorboards ( somewhat pricy but very comfortable IMO ).

Handlebar Swap

If you are looking to sit up straighter and take the strain off your hands/wrists then you can replace the RS handlebars with ST handlebars, which will give you a medium change, or RT handlebars, which will have you sitting straight up, like on an RT.

I chose the RT bars and it made a huge difference on how long I could ryde.

Look in the For Sale section for folks that have put Tri-Axis handlebars on their trike, if you don't see any there for sale just post a "looking for".

Thanks again everyone for your input!

Again, what Im looking for is to move the pillion pegs forward and down, and possibly also swap out the pegs for footboards. Second, Im looking for a wider more plush pillion seat. Think RSS that has egos similar to a ST... Why? Because we want to eat a lot of miles, and also because I like the handling and looks of the RSS.

I installed the BRP rear peg relocation brackets and the are very solid part not so easy to install but if I can do it I think anyone can. They look good and work well found then on Amazon. We use the stock pegs but I like the PHOENIX PRODUCTS PP-08298A POLISHED or BLACK PASSENGER FLOORBOARD CAN AM SPYDER RS 08-13. They have them for both front and rear. :yes:jtpollock

I have an RS and I would also like to change the seating position to more ST like. I bought a comfort seat, smooth Spyder backrest and highway pegs. All of these have made the ride more comfortable for my wife and I. I'm looking at Rivco driver floorboards right now. The are supposed to drop and move the position forward.

Will ST handlebars work on my 2015 RS? Anything I need to look out for?
