• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Engine control module

2010 RT appx 11,000 miles. I am the original owner. I have a fault code of C006C. Translates to engine control module. This sounds really bad. Before I take to dealer.....how bad is this?

Not so much a problem indicating a bad ECM as it is with communications on the CAN Bus - which is the "network" over which various modules talk to each other. Search this site and you can find a few occurrences of this. Sometimes it clears itself. It is usually accompanied by other codes, as well as a possibility of a limp mode. So, do you have any other codes? Anything else going on with the bike? Power wash it lately? Disturb any wiring? Mice?

If it doesn't clear itself, then a trip to the dealer would probably be required?

C006C module:ECM

VSS CAN (control area network) rate message error.
Communication on CAN BUS not reliable.
No external troubleshooting possible.

No other codes showing. I have not experienced "limp mode". I haven't riden in so long I am not sure if there are other problems. I will search this site and see if I can find anything. Thanks for your input!

Curious. ....

Did you shut the engine down and wait for the computers to reset..?? many times it will clear and that will be it. This would mean the computer stores the fault and if it does not occur again your fine. If it does come back then it is time to hook up to the buds system to find what the problem may be. May not be the ecm but some other sensor all together. Check all your fueses and relays make sure they are well seated...

What is the buds system?

What is the buds system?

Acronym For BRP Utility and Diagnostic Software.

B.U.D.S.

A software program used by your dealer to plug into the ECM and try to figure out what's going on.

Go out and ride the thing. After a couple of startup and shutdown cycles it might reset itself.

What is the status of your battery? Spyder get funny with batteries "on the edge".

Shelley,
If you're not having any other problems; this could just be a loose or corroded connection.
You might have to trace the wiring a bit...(Or have the dealer do it.), but it's worth a shot!

C006C is actually a Can Bus error that happens to be reported by the ECM.
Which means, probably your ECM is alright and the error could be caused (as previously noted) by low battery voltage, corroded connector or a pinched wire.
