• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Been watching the site for quite a while on the new spyders. I remember when I got my 08 gs, there were issues and problems. Seems to have been fixed and went away. With the newer models, seems like issue after issue and more issues, which do not seem to be fixed. Is it just me or have I missed a whole bunch of information ? Still loving the 08 gs...

Can you tell me what problems you have had with your GS? Did you get it from new or second hand and what improvements have you made to it?

Not sure what issues you are referring to :dontknow:.

I don't have as many miles as Ann (32,000).

I have had 4 issues - 1) noisy aulternator that was replaced under warranty, 2) rear brake caliper that was my fault and replaced under warranty, 3) tires - rear that only lasted 6,000 miles, and frount tires that cupped at 2,000 miles. Fixed by going to car tires., 4) broken left saddle bag hinge that was fixed under warranty.

So for me the only real issue the Spyder has is the tires that they put on them.

I am not afraid to hop on my 14 and go anywere with it and as a member of the North to Alaska group I think all the other members feel the same way!

The only recurring issue with my 2014: a cruise control that won't engage. ;)
If that's a problem; I need to find a real life! :roflblack:

Glad to hear that your GS is still scratching all of the right itches!

HMMM

:hun:I am new t the site from when I purchased my 2015 in July of this year. After never riding a Spyder before but wanting to, I read all of the reviews on Spyders on this site and others and made up my mind to purchase one.:clap: All of the reviews were AWESOME for the 2014, and 2015 models. I had been looking at a 2013 model but after reading how trouble free the new ones are I but the bullet and purchased a 2015.

My next statement might be a little biased because I have never owned or ridden one of the older twin cylinder Spyders.

I must say, after 8,100 miles of trouble free riding in the last 4 months and towing a camper trailer behind it for 4,500 miles of that, I don't think I could have made a better decision.:yes:

I love seeing that other people have many thousand more miles that I, and the vast majority of them are trouble free!

The more you ride a Spyder, the better it runs. It doth appear the low mileage (read never ridden) hangar queens have the most problems. :yikes:

I wondered if anyone else had that problem. For me, it only happens for about the first 100-200 miles after getting it serviced, and it being on their computer. After that, all is good. I have been having the dreaded DESS error, but it will be taken care of (hopefully) at my next service.

I agree with Ann, you've missed a lot of real life favorable experiences with the newer Spyders, particularly the 2014 and later models with the 1330 ACE engine.

Do be sure you separate problems caused by some BRP design change(s), e.g., the heat problem on 2013 RT Spyders, from component failures that occurred in parts manufactured by subcontractors and merely installed by BRP as part of the assembly process. Every manufacturer of multi-component end items is subject to such problems.

RE: Issues with :spyder2::ani29::spyder2::ani29:

Most people that have a problem with :spyder2: are attracted to sites just like this as it gives them a platform to post their problem and sometimes go on an unjustified rant.

We do have a lot of people who now come on to post how happy they are with their :ani29:.

There were very few issues on the early 2008 and 2009's. Both mine were virtually trouble free. 23,500 and 25,000 miles plus. The main computer crashed at 1,500 on the 09--but was promptly replaced by the dealer under warranty, within one day. They took it off one in stock in order to give me good service.

The 2010 RT's had some hot start and throttle issues. Mine had the hot start issue and was fixed under warranty. 36,500 trouble free miles on that one. The 2011 RT had a throttle body issue and that was fixed. 22,000 miles and still running strong.

The 2013 RT's had heat issues and some fires were reported. This one got pages and pages of threads, complaints galore, and the NHTSA was involved. This is the one that made most people aware of :ani29: issues. It took a while (actually to long), for the issue to get "fixed." Air scoop kits were installed and most receiving those felt their issues were solved. We have not heard of to many "issues" since the fix. I did not own this year.

The introduction of the 1330 ACE engine seems to have been done right. I only have 21,000 on my 2014, but it has been trouble free and I am planning on keeping that one.

IMO--the :spyder2: is evolving and they are trying to deliver a pretty good machine right out of the box. It isn't perfect, but it isn't bad either. I have had five and if the cards are good...number six will be in my garage in the spring. F3 Limited is on the menu.

I have a 2012 RTL and it has 16000 miles on it. I bought it 2nd hand with 8000 miles in June 5 2015. No issues so far. It runs great, rides smooth and so far seems reliable.

I have the F3-S, ok I have only had it a few weeks, but touch wood don't have any issues

Hi JayBros

A properly functioning Incoming Inspection/Test Program will prevent those problems from getting any farther in the production process.

"Touch wood.":yikes:

You must really be happy with your new toy;)

I would have bought a Spyder many years ago but looking at all of the problems, I decided against it. Me and many. many others. The issues were hotly discussed on many motorcycle forums believe me.

Fast forward to the new 3 cylinder models and I'm in the market again but----there are still quality control or design problems on some units. Security systems, heat management, semi-auto shifting issues, terrible premature tire wear, weak shocks, ground clearance, limp modes etc-etc.:sour:

For those of you that live close to a dealer and have good rapport with them and your unit is within the warranty period then I guess, all is well if you have time to go back and forth between the dealer and your home and can spare the time from work:D

I demand reliability. Out of 79 motorcycles/ scooters that I've owned over 53 years of riding, only one, a new 1987 BMW R65 gave me a problem. (Not charging the battery) It was fixed under warranty and sold the next day.:lecturef_smilie:

So far, knowing that I will get the manual 6 speed model and planning on buying it from "Pitt Bull Powersports," in Springfield, MO about 60 miles from me, I feel fairly confident that this will be a good experience.

BRP can't test D.E.S.S. Modules. That's an exception because of its design but they do exist.

When I owned a Honda Valkyrie, I joined that forum. I heard a number of problems from owners of those bikes. Over 50k miles on two Valkyries and absolutely no problems. Bought a Gold Wing and joined that forum. Again complaints about problems with those. Absolutely loved that bike and never repaired anything. I believe when you have thousands of any type of product, there is bound to be some problems. When problems happen, people get ticked and take to blowing off steam on the forums. If I had depended on the Gold Wing forum to determine whether I bought one or not, I probably would not have purchased. And the wing is one of the most reliable bikes ever built.

I'm happy with my 2010 RT. Had a problem with the shifting, got it fixed. Had a problem with the windshield, got it fixed. Put 13,000 miles on it since purchase in March. I think most of my original problems were from sitting without being ridden for quite some time, it only had 4,000 miles when I bought it.
Likes:
1. I have been riding 2 wheelers since 1993. The older I get, the further away the ground seems.
2. Fairly sure I will never drop the :f_spider: on myself.
3. Really like the luggage space I have. I can lock up my camera, put my clothes in the side cases, tools and what not in the front, and hit the road!
4. When I was having a major back problem, I found the STANDARD ISSUE seat more comfortable than most of the seating in my house. (Since added cushions to my couch, btw.)
5. I never realized how much I would enjoy an on-board radio. I love it!:)

Most my "dislikes" are minor:
1. Would have preferred a lighter color for better visibility, but since I had to get used, I wasn't gonna wait until a used pink one came available. (Mine's black.)
2. The Tupperware removal process is a damned nuisance any time I try to do my own service.
3. Wish mileage were better, and premium gas not required. Meh.
