• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

So I go the Wallyworld to buy a small piece of sporting equip. Go out to start the 3500 mi, 8 month old RT-S and NO START. Tries to start just a little, lights and dash work. Called the place where I bought it ( 8 mo. ago) and they sent a kid to jump it. Started right up. I let it run for a few minutes at a high idle and shut it off to try and start it--- no start. I know it a bad battery.

At the shop only 1/2 a mile away, I saw the print out with the vehical service history ( before I bought it) and it said battery was replaced ( and it's not the Yausa that come s OEM !!!!) And it's only 8 months old!!!!( or did I say that already) The batts in my motorcycles have lasted 8 years not 8 months( again?)

So we'll see if Michaels Powersports of Reno will prove to be a dealer or a stealer.

 Did they ever offer you an explanation as to why the battery had been replaced? :dontknow:
Insist on an OEM battery as a replacement, and make sure that they FULLY charge it before sending you out the door...
Let us know how this works out; Good Luck!

Are the terminal bolts/nuts tight? Was the battery load teste by dealership? From what I've read here on SL, a number of folks have had problems with cheapo replacement batteries.

I agree. Check and see if the terminal connections are tight. They can come loose fairly easily.

Done

I checked the conections before the kid with the jump battery arrived. Both were tight. I had added a relay for the horn a few weeks ago--- there was no "star" as noted in a PM from Blueknight. As I said the battery was not an OEM and the vehical history said battery work had been done before I purchased the :spyder2:. The battery hold down strap was also tight.

I just can't wait to hear from the "shop" that the relay I added has cauese the battery to fail. I call BS on that. I've added three other relays on two motorcycles and one auto for horns in the last year. Zero problems. Hoping it is just a bad battery.

The original battery in my cage lasted 8 years. The replacement lasted less than one. Stuff happens. The charging system should be checked not just the battery replaced.

I too am curious as to why the battery on a 2014 was replaced. If the dealer used a bottle fill battery and didn't charge it, it will not last. Bottle fill batteries should not be used in the Spyder.

Thanks

Thanks Billy and Bruser,

The guy who came over and jump started the:spyder2: noticed right off that the battery was not the OEM Yasua batt.

Thanks again,

Glad you got it sorted readily, even if it did take a coupla days!! But now you can get out there & enjoy it again, so wotcha waiting for?!

Lunch

Just waiting for lunch then I'm off for some curves to Virginia City Nv. ( It's an old mining town Re: tourest trap) that is at the top of a mountain about 7,000 ft above sea level. LOTS of curves and not exactly a safe road. The state of Nevada lets the families of the people who have died in accidents of this section of road put up crosses for a few years and there are a few still there. It's too bad that some motorcyclists think that it's thier own personal race track.

That's true for the 2010 thru 2012 RT's as the battery is laid over on its side and could possibly leak if not properly charged to absorb all the acid. Factory-filled batteries are charged properly to prevent that. YTX24HL is the factory-filled battery designation. However, beginning with 2013's, the battery up front is vertical and the BRP OEM battery is YTX24HL-BS -- the BS indicates "bottle supplied" acid. The owner's manual specifies this battery. Nothing wrong with using a factory-filled version, of course, but it's no longer deemed necessary by BRP.
