The Verdict--2016

So BRP gives the seadoo crowd a nice motor upgrade, a 1630 ACE motor pushing 300hp, and we get color matched hard bags, pretty fender lights, and upgrades to the radio......sorry, but this is super lame.

It's pretty clear to me that BRP has no idea what they are building for who.

I guess that people who claim that the lineup answers all the needs and represents some kind of coherent marketing strategy are either deluding themselves or serving their master.

[QUO=akspyderman;1038598]I guess that I am slightly underwhelmed--but not down and out.

Likes:
:ani29:: They have spiffed up some of the packages on the F3. I think they look nice.
:ani29:: The rear end treatment on the F3 T and F3 Limited looks an awful lot like the Honda F6B or Valkerie--which I like.
:ani29:: The new blue RT color is nice. Many wanted that back.

Not so much:
:ani29:: No new back end treatment on the RT.
:ani29:: Color choices are down and black is back.

My prediction about the demise of the RS was not correct.
My prediction about not much change with anything except for color was on.[/QUOTE]
The RS-S is still the best handling in the twisties and fastest in 0 to 60 times due to its light weight. Now is BRP would add the 3 jug engine with out the forward controls.

In its current form the 1330 motor would be a downer in the RS. And If anything, with all of the changes to the f3, I could see the demise of the rt.

Drew,
I have to respectfully disagree with you on the Death of the RT model; at the hands of the F-3.
Touring bikes need to have storage capacity. The "Baggers" still won't win that wrestling match against the RT.
They can both tow a trailer now; that's a draw... :D
Cruisers need one thing: versatility! That's something that they now have.
The F-3 "Baggers" (I know that this actually encompasses a couple of their models.) now have gained the ability to run errands around Town, and even cover more ground that has been deemed "RT Country"...
But they still can't match the carrying capacity of the RTs.

:agree: Not to mention, I do my grocery shopping on my :spyder2:. I can fit a lot of groceries in my RT. With the F-3 bagger, I'd have to make more trips.

I went to the grocery store for three items and ended up with a cart full. When I pushed out to the bike people stood around and watched to see how I was going to get it all in. I did and they smiled and walked away. Lots of capacity for sure.

Yeah, I get that too. People can't believe I can put a cart full of groceries in my Spyder. One time a couple of guys watched me as I easily slid a 30 pack of beer into the frunk. They applauded :roflblack:.

:agree: The Missus and I have found that we can stuff $117 worth of Shop Rite's finest; into the RT. That's without buying any meat...
If there was meat in the cart; it'd be about $175...

Baggers are now over 40% of the market, go to a rally and look and see. The lack of a trunk is what most folks like in the bagger world and most are not riding two up. I think the bagger version of the Spyder on the F3 platform was a move in the right direction and being able to tow a trailer is a big plus. The RT doesn't have the fun factor of the F3 so this is a great mix, little RT with the fun of a F3. I also think that everyone that was wanting a 1330 in the ST has no need now.

In 1982 I bought a Gold Wing Aspencade that had a neat feature. It was a touring bike but I could quickly remove the back case and turn it into slick version of a bagger where those side cases blended in well with the machine and a little chrome rack ran flat over part of the rear fender.

Around town, cruising, it even looked a little Harleyesque. I wish BRP could clean up the back end of the RT and give it some of that flavor.

Can't match the storage YET. Give it a year or so to make them bags a bit bigger and add a big top box and it's game over...[emoji16] [emoji33]

You RT old fogies are doomed! [emoji38] [emoji38]

I'm actually very excited by the changes for the F3. I had the RT a few years back but got rid of it due to a slew of mechanical issues. I've been on a Star Stratoliner ever since which fits my 6' 2" frame very well but I've missed the stability of the Spyder. I started looking at a new RT last year with the 1330 but it seemed like they shrunk the seating position on the bike. My 5'2" wife loves the way the RT feels while I'd be more comfortable driving from the passenger seat.

When the F3 arrived with the U-Fit system, I thought that I'd found the bike that would bring me back to Can Am. Unfortunately I simply couldn't get past the lack of storage, no radio, etc. I've been watching Lamont's mods with interest, especially given the fact that Pitbull Powersports and the Lamonster Garage are a mere two hours from Northwest Arkansas.

The F3-T just addressed my major objections to the F3! Now I just have to find out how long until it comes out so I can do a test ride and make sure it's everything I hope it is.

You might just be on to something here, that would get my attention for sure!
I like the F3-T but with more storage and adjustable riding positions it may
appeal to many more RT owners.

BRP HAS been listening

People who have bought the f3 wanted more storage they gave it to them.

Wanted windshield gave it to them. Seat gave to them ( would like to try this)

Totally different between the f3 and rt.

Forward controls for a crusier are typical . Sitting down in cruiser typical.

Will never be competion.

2 totally different concepts

Lamonster, all valid points except the last one - "I also think that everyone that was wanting a 1330 in the ST has no need now."

In the US, we buy things that appeal to us and visual appeal is very important to many. For me, I didn't care for the [front stubby nose] styling of the F3, and the changes they made for 2016 only make it worse because the rear end now looks awkward. I believe the drivetrain and sitting position maybe superior, but the flowing lines on the bike are awful. I am drawn to the body lines on the ST... so it looks like I will be holding on to my 2013 STL for a while. The sale numbers for the F3 models will bare out how well the market guys got the strategy right.

How far in advance did you know which way things were going to go?

Jerry
I think people are missing the fact that if you put a 1330 into a ST its not going to be able to keep that same frontend. You'll now have two huge radiators you have to do something with.

F3 always had detachable saddlebags, you just had to pay for it.
Windshield still look to short for tall riders (based on some of the male models sitting on the F3T)
F3S stock seat is pretty comforatable
Overall seems BRP just made it look like an RT. Which is fine since I have always said to myself that I was not yet ready for an RT but it would be my next model.
Would like to know if all the new features on the 2016 F3 are something you can add on to the 2015. This question has been asked serveral times but not answered.

Just to throw something else into the mix. Can am now has the 131hp Maverick max turbo side by side. Any guesses if we'll see that motor in a sporty RS?

rear shock f3t

didn't see anything mentioned about the rear shock on the new f3-t or limited, but with such a soft shock, how in heck is anyone going to be able to put any tongue weight on it (towing a trailer) when they can't even ride their wife comfortably without bottoming out? did I miss something about a new shock?:dontknow::dontknow:

I read the BRP specs page and found that it says rear shock with manual air preload adjustment for the F3T (both std and Ltd I think). Very pleased.
The front shocks are 'double bore' (from memory... don't know what I'm talking about here so could be very wrong) but specs didn't say anything about adjustment, that I saw.

Looking good for me...
