• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Waving etiquette

That is a new one for me. Have not seen that version before.:bowdown:

New to me also, but I try to be courteous to all other cyclists and wave to all that I can safely do. The type bike makes no difference to me, we are all enjoying that freedom and the fresh air.

Wave to All (When Possible)

I wave to anyone on 2 or 3 wheels. I also wave to all Amish children, and any Amish adults who wave first ;).

I have encountered a few Harley riders who do not wave to Spyders. My wife and I were riding on a beautiful summer day, going slowly through a complicated country intersection & curve combo. Two Harleys were coming toward us, and I heard the man on the first bike yell to the woman on the second bike, telling her not to wave to us :(.

Be better than that. We wave because we ride. We love life, freedom, and the good-ole US of A. So, wave when you can safely take on hand off the grip. If you can't safely wave, nod. At least smile.

All the best,
John

Detailed...

explanation. Had not seen this one...thanks for posting..:bowdown: still wave or nod to them all....with a thumbs up to all firefighters...:thumbup:

Well that certainly clears that up and is a lesson that should be taken from our "whiners" that complain about Harley Riders not waving to them!:joke:

Huh. I've been riding (and waving) since the late '60s. It was just something bikers did to acknowledge other bikers on the road. I'm not sure why people are always trying to make it more than what it is.

Left one out

They left out the one finger wave that seems too frequently necessary for "cagers" . Personally, I give the wave to every biker. If they wave back that's great. If they don't wave back that's great. Either way , I'm going the other way in style, comfort and listening to my XM radio with a smile. It doesn't get any better than that.

Waving is certainly a good jester, but I will not ruin my day trying to decide when to wave or not wave, 2 fingers, full hand, thumbs up, one finger or not at all. When I wave, it is because I WANT to wave, not because it's a duty, or if I don't someone will condemn me for not doing so. I ride for my enjoyment not someone else's.

What's next??? A video on proper etiquette on taking a crap??
We do what we do --
I usually give a wave or a nod of the head....it depends on what I'm doing, where I am, and how fast I'm going.
To me, a wave is an acknowledgement to another motorcyclist.

:agree: Somebody is trying to build a set of rules, where none is needed... :banghead:

Wave if you want to, and don't gripe if nobody waves back.

You two must be members of the Wave Hard and True Biker Society (WHAT BS)!

Seems I have ruffled a couple of feathers with this!

My sole purpose for posting this was to enlighten those riders that had / have questions regarding the waving. I myself have found confusion with:
1. when to wave
2. how to wave
3. do the different types of wave mean anything special

so when I read this, I thought ok .. explains a lot to me, maybe others will be interested to.

In fact just recently, my wife and I were cruising through the Ozarks riding the pig trail and we passed 3 Harleys. The lead bike rider 'snapped' his left arm down toward the road, palm facing the roadway with two fingers extended. I actually thought there was a hidden meaning there to tell me that either I should be on 2 wheels or 2 wheels rule. So from that point on I have been waving to others with 3 fingers extended. Now after reading what I originally posted, I discovered in fact the way he waved had no hidden meaning .... the reality is, I can actually wave how I want to! Plus, I can also do it with the right hand if I want to show off (coz I have cruise control) and if I feel like it I can pass them slowly, acknowledge them by nodding, whilst lighting a cigar!

Thanks

Thanks for posting this. It was really cool to get a little background. I wave 2 fingers extended pointing down. I find there is no way of predicting the wave back. There is simply nothing based on the type of ride that can let me know if they wave or not. If they do cool. I wave to all.........but I draw the line at scooters!:roflblack:

I use the the palm down arm low, unless it is another intelligent rider on a can am then its arm straight out and thumb up.
