• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

:gaah::gaah::gaah:....If you have put those 100 watt bulbs in ....TAKE THEM OUT ......A.S.A.P.----Before they damage the plug that goes into the light bulb ( to make them work ).......I had one headlite go out two weeks ago and I thought it was the bulb FILIMENT it wasn't ....At Spyderquest the other one went out so I had some with me and decided to fix it by changing the bulbs ......that's when I discovered the " bake-a-lite " plug disintegrated from over-heating.....Yours are probably still fine , but DON'T WAIT , or you will have PLUG FAILURE........return to the OEM bulbs.......also please post this because I CAN'T

So as Mike says above, if you put these in, take them out, it lasted a while from what I gather but eventually will burn out your sockets....beware!

:yikes::clap:....Yes please pass the word,.....I had about 1500 hrs. on them before it happened......It is just tooooooo hot in the rear of the housing , with no hot air escape.......I could drill holes but I'm very leery about a water issue.....It may not be worth it ..........I may have a longer look at this over the winter.....:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

More from Mike! Yes I have to agree with him on the heat thing, I have the bulbs, but never installed yet as I was waiting on tomorrow (just think Mike! haha) to do this with the other things I bought! :yikes:
 
Do not I repeat DO NOT drill holes in your headlights. You will get condensation in them they are sealed for a reason. I think enough bogus info has been posted on this topic. Do not replace 65W bulbs with 100W bulbs that meant ~30% more heat. Being a Journeyman electrician I understand electrical ratings. Those bulb sockets are not rated for 100W bulbs holes will not help the heat is in the socket. The same goes for cars use the proper bulbs for the application.
 
I wonder if there's a way to duct some air up toward the affected pieces? :dontknow:

I'm baffled as to why anyone would even WANT to jump from 65w lamps to 100w lamps in their headlight sockets. Is there some logic to this? :dontknow:

Nope. Some people want more light changing bulbs is not the way to get it. BRP makes a HID kit that will do that. There as some others out there that might be OK too but Canbus circuits can be touchy. There is no free lunch. Be careful whose advice you take and get it verified by a qualified person first is the lesson here.
 
I think that Mike letting us know (even though he is not free to post) is an upstanding thing, and I think it is sad the people who attack or criticize when they should see what it really is. He let us know, even though it was not easy to do that. I think that it was a good try, and sadly didn't work out, but at least he has saved some of us from the grief of having to change the socket or more. There are many more here who have tried things, some work and some don't. I am thankful.

:agree: That is usually why I like to check to see if there was a issue from trying something and in this case we all found out.. ;)

Anyway: I would stick to the same stock setup but with a brighter white light same wattage ..HID lighting can be a PIA also not only for heat but they don't last in some case.. There will be many thoughts on this topic.. I liked installing my Clearwater lights if you want more light on the road and when you turn the light follows as you turn.. :thumbup: JMO

:agree: This will save others from trying too, one of my tip light covers (I bought my bike used with 300km on it) was different, I thought that was how it was until I took it into the dealer, well some bright person put in a bulb that was too hot and it melted the plastic and made it bubble (I suspect the light bulb died, and they put whatever fit in it, Mexico is the land of not checking things out first to see), so I have one with a big bump on it (I want to buy a new cover for the tip light, but where?? can someone tell me?), and the other with a smooth flat surface. I have since put in led bulbs in them (so cool and so bright) which are fantastic. But I do not like yellow light, I want white headlights on my bike....and one thing that would be good is brighter, but if not I will live and add in some spot lights of some type, either the missing fog lights on my basic RT or something else....but this was a good try, I am sorry Mike has to change it...fix it, whatever he is going to have to do!

My memory is not as sharp as it us to be but on my car I put on Sylvania ..I think brightstar or something like that its a whiter brighter wider light..Once mine die on the spyder I may try them out..For now I am good with the Clearwater lights..:thumbup:
 
I never saw anyone suggesting using 100watt bulbs before or I would have pointed out what would eventually happened. Automotive ( or Motorcycle) lighting is designed to use specific components suggesting to anyone to use different ones without having an electrical back round is risking damaging another's property. For example if the wires going to that plug are 18AWG the ampacity is 7amps. running 65w bulbs requires 5.4 amps 100w bulbs require 8.4amps. 16 AWG will handle 10amps. Do not forget to double the amperage per bulb for total amperage in the circuit.

Silverstars and most of the "brighter but same wattage" bulbs do it by shortening the life of the bulb. Most will not last much over a year in an automobile applications. I have done extensive research on them all. I would stick with plain regular OEM type bulbs for longevity or if you do not mind changing them Silverstars, PIAA and some others are a touch brighter. HID's can be problematic especially if they are not "plug & Play".
