• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. What to do to make my Spyder unique and unusual

Not wanting to highjack the other thread so I will start this one.

So from what I understand the videos (most of them anyway) are fakes, but there now exists paramagnetic paint. It is done in layers somehow, you do like a yellow layer, blue layer, red layer, applying all the colors you want to see in the final project, etc....and the electricity will make the layer show through, different wattage/voltage for each layer, and you can even combine two layers to make up a new color like yellow and blue to make up green. But from what I saw on the website where they sell this stuff it is not quite as brilliant as the videos, but a super cool idea that someday will be actually be available. You attach electrical wires to a discreet place and it uses a remote control to do the changing, and I imagine that you can tap out your battery with this stuff eventually. You could drive the cops nuts too, be a hard core criminal and just park the car, change the color and poof disappear! Yikes. The gas tank stuff is for real, and that is how it looks, but this stuff does not change colors like the paramagnetic stuff. Different thing, there is even a helmet and jacket with this stuff on it, which is cool!

I have been thinking of what to do to my Spyder....there are alot of things, but for me being in Mexico it seems like out of my reach or maybe not. My bike is black.

I was looking at the platidip stuff. https://www.youtube.com/user/DipYourCarcom this is who I am actually looking at, they have the chameleon colors, glitter colors and different options. I would need to find a painter guy that knows his stuff but being this stuff is removable so it seems like possibly the best route. You can combine things I think like glitter and chameleon to make up something new. I don't know how much "paint" you need to do a Spyder but I imagine you could change out the color every once in a while...

But then there is the plastic covering stuff with printed graphics on them that does change the color of the bike, but those, at least the really cool ones cost like $700. Whew haha

Then there is the traditional painting method, which is also expensive, and permanent. I also am thinking about resale value at some point, possibly although I doubt I will sell it, I love my bike, but nothing wrong of thinking this through. I see people who have cool airbrush artwork on their bikes but it is not easy to sell these because not everyone likes the same things. In the early 2000's I had a truck with Chameleon paint and am familiar with it, I never was happy with it, because it was done in a school in Missouri and they didn't take the truck apart to paint it, they didn't do a great job. Back then this paint was super expensive too.

Then there is also the cool pinstriping stuff too, but it is not enough for me. I want my bike to stand out, for safety reasons and because I am a girl. I really like the paramagnetic stuff but I am rather sure that is out of my reach and it does not exist like the videos show it, it is more muted.

Then there is the color chrome stuff (spectra chrome) which is so very cool too, but again this goes along the same lines as the traditional painting method, it is permanent and I imagine costly.

If someone has other ideas let me know, I am open to doing DIY stuff. I am a good DIY person. I like learning and fooling around..

I think the first option you describe (can't remember the name) is available, but it's by far the most expensive option. I'm drawing a blank this morning on the name but a Spyderlover reps it and did a demo at Spyderfest 2014. It's really cool, but costly.

There are lots of options. The most economical may be a wrap.

Tastefull?

Do as you want but don't show that you have more $$$ than taste.

Now don't jump on my case as there are 1,000's of examples.

Kaos

PS: first thing I did--- Removed the ugly BRP badges ( round, on frunk and trunk) Replacrd w/tastefull spider graphic.

Wow..!!

you've done your homework. You did not leave much room for suggestions...:roflblack::roflblack:. Having come from a latin american country have found the more my things stood out the harder it was to deal with keeping them that way. I usually went for the personal touch but low key. My RS was all/too much black so I went the pinstripe route. Painting it should be easy and a whole lot cheaper there and would be my next choice....you have your work cut out for yourself and the budget, availability, practicallity will weigh in heavy..good luck..

Chupaca, cool bike, nice looking too! I think it was Electromagnetic paint or something along those lines, like the paramagnetic paint basically....

I personally do not like black, but after searching for a RT for over 3 months I came across this one that I could afford, it had 300 km on it, so it was brand new, which is a plus, it was manual which at the time was a minus (but now a plus, I love it that it is manual, way more fun to drive!) it has way more pick up than a SE. Anyway back to the look of it....I wanted a white one, and a limited....so I have the basic RT. I am working on it being pretty much a limited (and getting closer all the time) but the color is still not what I want. I would be happy with a pink one, hot pink, purple, or a combo of two colors like purple to blue (where it fades into each other) or Hot pink to purple (fading too) something like that, or glitter/chameleon/chrome color. Without ruining the black that it is originally I think the dip option is most likely my best bet...and probably something I can do myself....and being I can peel it off if needed is a huge plus. But of course I am still interested in other ideas.

NO I will not be going paramagnetic or anything like that, I don't have that kind of money! I think black blends in to much with the road and around here I need to be as visible as possible. That is part of my reasoning....

I think that The LEDs on the Bumpskid help a whole lot, in making your more visible. :2thumbs:

Yes and it is on its way here (almost here, on FedEx and close by! haha can't wait) Fun Fun!

 Nice Choice... :2thumbs:
When I had mine added; I was asked if I wanted them wired into the foglight circuit. If you have them on your bike (The foglights), it would give you some ways to play around with your lighting package.
I ended-up having mine just wired to be on 100% of the time...
If you were to use your fogs as a way to "flash" someone for more visibility; that would make them MUCH more noticeable.

Find someone down there that knows how to paint on plastic and pick a bright color. Add lights/LEDs both front and back and hopefully, you will be seen. If you have plenty of money, DIY or not, you can get pretty crazy.

The options and possibilities are countless. Pretty much, whatever you do, is going to stand out because there is not a lot of competition when it comes to custom :spyder2::ani29: there.

Let us know what happens with yours. I am also in the more conservative camp. When it comes time to get another :spyder2:, not everyone make like the custom features.

Plasti dip

Try some plasti dip. I comes in all kinds of wild colors these days, and is cheap and easy to do. I've had mine on for a year and a half and it still looks decent. I did my silver panels in black.

Get a wrap.... that way, if you ever change your mind or ever go to sell it you won't have a limited audience. It can always be removed and your paint underneath will be like new. I have one from AMRacing and love it.

Bob you were more handsome before hehe. Anyway, no, no one asked me! opps, well I will get it figured out, I think on all the time will be best for me. I don't have fogs, but it is next on my list to buy...eventually I will have them, but man are they expensive, the cheapest set I have found is $439 and that is pretty cheap for these things. Thanks Bob!

So many choices, it is so hard to decide, but I appreciate the help guys, it is going to be cool whatever I do! haha and I like the wrapping or the plasti-dip route just because I can go back to square 1 if I want to! I appreciate the help!

IMO instead of spending that kind of money for fog lights take a look at this idea. 20W each, $13. I switched then separate, so if I got stopped because they were to bright, I could kill them.
