Not wanting to highjack the other thread so I will start this one.
So from what I understand the videos (most of them anyway) are fakes, but there now exists paramagnetic paint. It is done in layers somehow, you do like a yellow layer, blue layer, red layer, applying all the colors you want to see in the final project, etc....and the electricity will make the layer show through, different wattage/voltage for each layer, and you can even combine two layers to make up a new color like yellow and blue to make up green. But from what I saw on the website where they sell this stuff it is not quite as brilliant as the videos, but a super cool idea that someday will be actually be available. You attach electrical wires to a discreet place and it uses a remote control to do the changing, and I imagine that you can tap out your battery with this stuff eventually. You could drive the cops nuts too, be a hard core criminal and just park the car, change the color and poof disappear! Yikes. The gas tank stuff is for real, and that is how it looks, but this stuff does not change colors like the paramagnetic stuff. Different thing, there is even a helmet and jacket with this stuff on it, which is cool!
I have been thinking of what to do to my Spyder....there are alot of things, but for me being in Mexico it seems like out of my reach or maybe not. My bike is black.
I was looking at the platidip stuff. https://www.youtube.com/user/DipYourCarcom this is who I am actually looking at, they have the chameleon colors, glitter colors and different options. I would need to find a painter guy that knows his stuff but being this stuff is removable so it seems like possibly the best route. You can combine things I think like glitter and chameleon to make up something new. I don't know how much "paint" you need to do a Spyder but I imagine you could change out the color every once in a while...
But then there is the plastic covering stuff with printed graphics on them that does change the color of the bike, but those, at least the really cool ones cost like $700. Whew haha
Then there is the traditional painting method, which is also expensive, and permanent. I also am thinking about resale value at some point, possibly although I doubt I will sell it, I love my bike, but nothing wrong of thinking this through. I see people who have cool airbrush artwork on their bikes but it is not easy to sell these because not everyone likes the same things. In the early 2000's I had a truck with Chameleon paint and am familiar with it, I never was happy with it, because it was done in a school in Missouri and they didn't take the truck apart to paint it, they didn't do a great job. Back then this paint was super expensive too.
Then there is also the cool pinstriping stuff too, but it is not enough for me. I want my bike to stand out, for safety reasons and because I am a girl. I really like the paramagnetic stuff but I am rather sure that is out of my reach and it does not exist like the videos show it, it is more muted.
Then there is the color chrome stuff (spectra chrome) which is so very cool too, but again this goes along the same lines as the traditional painting method, it is permanent and I imagine costly.
If someone has other ideas let me know, I am open to doing DIY stuff. I am a good DIY person. I like learning and fooling around..
