There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Frumping wrong with Frunk latch Mechanism 2015 RT-S

Ok the first chink in armor appeared. The front trunk...frunk ???...no longer latches closed. Inspection indicates the latcher moves freely and lid is aligned. It simply won't click closed. Assume convered under warranty. Heck the bike isn't 3 weeks old yet. Other assumption since you have to press the key in and turn, there seems to be a cable release involved and maybe something wrong with that.

Thoughts and recommendations welcomed

Give us a hint. GS/RS, ST, RT, F3 and the model year?

What year and model? Only thing that I have seen on the forums is when someone changed to Helibars and the trunk and seat wouldn't work after that. It was something with the cables and they needed slack.

Push key

Try pushing your key in. Mine did that occasionally and as soon as I push my key in the ignition it pops. I had the cable replaced recently and it seemed to take care of the issue.

I have an additional frunk problem.....

I opened it up and a 1 inch long spring popped out from somewhere in the latch mechanism. Any photos on where this damn thing goes back ?

ST-L 2014

Thanks dudes !

I have a similar problem with my glove compartment lid not latching. I too have a 2015 RT and have only had it for three months. I took it to the dealer and they confirmed that it's a faulty latch, and they ordered a new one. Now that I've seen your issue, I suspect that BRP may have produced some Spyders with faulty latches, and yours may be one of them.

I would take it to your dealer post haste.

Pam

Have you checked the gasket around the lip of the frunk to make certain it is fully seated all the way around? Since it is not cemented down, at least not on my '14 and others I have seen, it takes only a little bit of misalignment of the gasket to keep the lid from latching.

THIS PROBLEM

When I first got my 2014 RT it didn't want to lock ( frunk ) ......If I tapped the Key with the palm of my hand .....it would lock.........this went on for awhile then stopped by itself...............so that's my story and I'm sticking ( pun ) to it :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:.....Mike

Exact same thing happened to my 10 day old 2014 RT-S. Dealer ordered in a complete new key locking mechanism. Replaced under warranty.

When I would push down and turn to unlock the frunk, there was nothing. No spring, no nothing. On original inspection by the dealer, it would work maybe 9 out of 10 times, then the spring would not catch.

My dealer sent the complete mechanism back to BRP to be evaluated. Could be a potential problem with some of the latches.

Frumping

Love It

Frumping = new word to cover all the Spyder quirks, usually fixed by holding the key in the air and doing the hokey-pokey . . :roflblack:

:agree:
This has happened to me a couple of times - when I took something out of the frunk, it apparently caught on the gasket and pulled it slightly askew, interfering with latching properly. Once I saw what the problem was, it took about 5 seconds to fix it.

Frump Fix for the Frunk

So as I was mowing the lawn (such a detestable task) it dawned on me if the Frunk latch is broken the seat latch could be tied into the same problem and might run out of gas. So I ran out put the key in as my girlfriend watched. Nothing, damn. She said your turning the key the wrong way/ Ahhh turned the key the other way and the seat is opens. Phew we can get gas in the think.

Well that also seemed to Fix the Frumping Frunk. It works again. Will have to keep an eye on this.

And yes I had to go back to that detestable task of mowing the lawn.

I did it again 2015 RT-S[/QUOTEHad the same problem on my '14 RTS. Ignition switch was replaced under warranty. In the interim when the lid won't latch, try depressing the key and turn it to the right as in unlocking the seat.

ANOTHER OPTION.............INEXPENSIVE CURE FOR VERY EXPENSIVE PROBLEM

:yikes::yikes:....The ignition switch costs about $ 400 or so to re-place !!!!......I came to the conclusion that we are asking it to do some very strenuous tasks.....namely opening the " Frunk " & " Seat Latch "........I now have a separate hidden cable to open the frunk and my seat latch is wired open.........Neither was difficult to do..........Think about it !!!!!.............Mike

Pictures worth a 1000 words

Pictures are required... great solution. When you say wired open does that mean you decommissioned the seat latch ??

SEAT LATCH

...........Sort of !!.....I bought some wire at H.D., it 's the type that that is meant to be bent and twisted tight etc......What I did was to hook one end onto the cable where the spring is then go around the back and loop it under the bolt head and re-tighten that to hold the pressure..........if you look at the Latch after reading this it becomes apparent what this involves ....I only took 98% of the pressure off , so it still latches , but if you pull up the right corner of the seat slightly , the seat comes up.......The secret FRUNK LATCH thing .....well I believe " Doc Humphries " ( site vendor ) came up with a low cost model that He sells.........Sorry no Pics my Photographer is not available ..........Mike ............are you going to SPYDERQUEST ?????
