LED's messing with DESS?

I just had my DESS replaced and the shop tech says that BRP
told him that LED wiring can interfere with the DESS Mod.
I can't see how this is possible, but I'm no expert.
Anyone have any thoughts on this.

Hard to imagine that would be the cause, but these electronics can sometimes emit strange electrical fields. That being said, DESS module on my 2014 RT Ltd has been replaced twice so far and I have nothing electrical added at all.......

The jury's still out as to whether my DESS error was just a glitch or part of the larger problem. In either case, I have no extra lights or electronics other than what was built by the factory.

I think the Tech's statement is ....Whoowey...My GF had Her DESS re-placed , Her RT is stock......My ( same ) RT has LED's ( aftermarket )all over the bike and my DESS is fine............Mike :thumbup:

are blamed for a lot of things. Some are in fact true but the DESS problem has nothing to do with it. I'm not sure if they know what is causing the problem but I only see them changing modules/switches etc when they fail. Happens on brand new unit with no mods or farkles in both 14/15's....hopefully the replacement units are the updated ones...:banghead:

i am not breaking chops with this pose, but, i just did a big search on youtube for a video on a LED upper break light on a spyder rt causing problems with bike. i had found this a few months ago and now can't. the mechanic had said that a woman brought her bike in with problems with some type of codes, i can't remember what one it was,she was a on a trip and the problem caused her to bring the bike to a shop. the mechanic was test riding the bike and doing a video on it and he said that the top 3rd brake light was the problem with the bike, and as soon as he disconnected it the problem stopped. sorry i can't find it right now but if i ever see it again i will post it

If you actually wrapped your DESS module with a strip of LEDs... then I'd believe that it might monkey things up a bit... :shocked:
Other than that; I don't see it happening! :banghead:
(Assuming that all of the wiring connections are properly connected and covered!)

It is possibly BS, but I would say a lot depends on the quality of workmanship in wiring the LEDs.

The DESS is a very simple system on paper. When the key is inserted into the ignition, the DESS module interrogates the key and send the key code to the computer. If the key code has been stored in the computer memory, the ignition boots and all should be good.

If the key has failed, if the DESS does not interrogate, read or send the key code to the computer it fails. This assumes the key code is stored and properly read by the computers memory.

Could the LEDs confuse the DESS or computer? It's electronic so anything is possible.

My guess would lean towards defective BRP electronics, but to prove it, you should disconnect all your aftermarket LEDs that come on with the ignition.

Added brake LEDs, should not be an issue.

If you have LED illumination setups, if not wired on a separate switchable circuit, that may be something to consider. That way the LEDs are isolated in the off setting during start up.
