• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. DESS KEY CODE PICTURES ON A 2014 RTS-SE6

He said to touch the negative post on the battery with the positive cable. No, I don't see how you could do any harm touching the two cables together if they aren't connected to the battery. I'm far from an electrical system expert, but my first reaction to the idea of touching the positive cable onto the negative post is :yikes:

The steps he posted involve a disconnected positive battery lead. In that case the battery is only connected via the negative lead / terminal. Essentially the battery has been removed from the system, no direct short will result.

DESS fault

Had the same happen to me the other day. Just took key out waited a few minutes and then restarted. Will call dealer tomorrow, as they as closed on Monday. Thanks.

You are correct. This is not the same as you get when you touch jumper cable ends after they are connected to the battery. There is no harm to be done when the positive cable is disconnected. This just relieves the system of any charge. The same thing happens when you wait 24-48 hours and then come back to your bike, and everything works. It just discharges the system without the wait. There is no difference.

OK then, so if this every happens to me (Hopefully never), I can temporarily fix it with the above technique so I can at least ride home?

Updated Part Numbers

As I posted in another thread, BRP has updated the part number for the 2014 model year. Let's hope that means they have improved the part. The original number was 710003595. The new number is 710004190. Tell your dealer to order the new part number and get the old one out of there. Warranty should do it but the cost is $133 plus removing the frunk to get to it.

Note they changed it again in 2015 to # 710004241 but this does not retrofit back to 2014. They also changed the ECM in 2015 so it appears they had to change the DESS in 2015 to talk to the new ECM.

With photos in hand, and failed start attempts, they will at a minimum start some paperwork. With luck they have parts ASAP and get this resolved for you.

Hopefully they will not give some mumbo jumbo about must be a total failure before replacement.

I so want to buy the tools to disable this silly system, but just not in the cards at the moment.

PK
PMK, I will take the pictures/camera of the DESS KEY CODE with me, when I go to the dealer( Walt's Sales & Service). I do have a open case # from BRP about ( the Semi-Rigid Rear Side Cargo Travel bags it is a long story).

I will keep everyone posted on this, and what the dealer says.

I tried both keys, and I also waited 5 minutes the spyder did not start.

So I went inside a house, and waited about 30 to 45 minutes, then went back outside, and put a key in to the ignition, and it started, and everything was/and sounded normal( I did not get the DESS KEY CODE). I will also call my dealer tomorrow, as they also closed on Mondays.
I will keep everyone posted about this.

Hey Miss D

I had the same issue with mine the dealer contacted BRP and was told to replace the module. The dealer replaced it this weekend took about 2hrs fingers crossed.

This is also happening on my 2015 Limited. However, I'm only having the problem with one key. The second key has never had the Dess Code Error

DESS KEY CODE UPDATE

Here is the latest up date on the "DESS KEY CODE" from my can- am dealer( Walt's Sales & Service in Derby Line, VT.)

I contacted the above dealer, and they said" it was the first time that they have heard about the DESS KEY CODE, I explained to them what happened, and they said".

They will order the new part # 710004190 tomorrow, they will have the part on Thursday, and I have an appointment on Friday( 17th) and it is under warranty. They will replace the module and it will take 1 hour

Also, I explained to them that a lot of people on this site that have 14RTS-SE6'S and the 15RTSE-SE6 Limited's have been getting the DESS KEY CODE codes. Deanna

I called my dealer after the second time it happened. They told me also they have never heard of that before. Then after looking it up...4 hours later...I was told it was a common problem on the 2014 but this was the first on the 2015. The fix was to change the key module. The dealer told me they would need to put the bike on the computer first and then go from there. I ask them to tell me the difference between the 2014 and the 2015 besides color? There isn't anything different.

Hi Dee,
Unfortunately, It's time to call the dealer... :banghead:
This is not something that is going to go away, and you sure don't want to be afraid of having the bike not start, while out on a ride! :yikes:

Good Luck; your bike is still under warranty, so let us know what it takes to fix it! :2thumbs:
Bob, read my last post on page #2 on this thread for the results. They are going to replace the module and it under warranty, and the new part # is 710004190. Deanna
