Laser Alignment--I am convinced.

RE: Laser Alignments

Not a one to jump quickly on new technology.

Also have a dealer that wanted to do it the "other" way.

When Joe and Ann (Squared Away Laser Alignments) were here, they performed Laser Alignments on both our :spyder2:'s.

I am both impressed and amazed.

Our 2011 just had an alignment at the dealer when they replaced the front tires which were cupping. When checked by Joe and Ann yesterday, the left tire was about an inch and a half off pointing to the left, the right tire was about a half inch off and pointing to the right. Sheesh--let's just say that I am not a real happy camper with the alignment performed "by the book."

The necessary corrections were made and it now runs better than ever. Linda's reaction after about 3 blocks--"I can't believe how nice this bike steers and handles now."

My 2014 was off a bit, but I have never aligned that one. It tracks like it is on rails. A couple times today I let go of the handle bars, and no deviation whatsoever.

Bottom line: I recommend a laser alignment--If you can get it from Squared Away, that is even better.

Well..!!

Glad you caved...:roflblack: Squared Away is one of the best and I know you are straight as a whistle now. It does make a big difference on many. probably have mine redone at SITR this year...

Thanks

We thank you for the kind words. We love to ride, and when someone gets "Squared Away" and loves it, we are just thrilled! It really does make a difference, and that's why we do it! We re did SpyderAnn's after 50,000 miles, and her bars were off almost 1/8th". She had hit a car starter in the road, and it punctured her tire. Pretty solid impact. But, she tracked true, and could ride no handed. So, unless you slam into something, the alignment hold true! As always, we check if for free, (Gene), and if it is still in spec, it is free! Look forward to seeing both of you in the redwoods! Cheers! Joe

How often does this have to be done? or last?

CptJam answered that above when he said, "We re-did SpyderAnn's after 50,000 miles, and her bars were off almost 1/8th". She had hit a car starter in the road, and it punctured her tire. So hitting the starter knocked her handlebars slightly out of alignment, but it did not effect the wheel alignment. So far, it's lasted 50,000 miles.

During my 400 mile ryde to Spyderfest, everything seemed fine. I was running about 65-70 when I hit a rough patch on the highway that caused a quick side-to-side vibration of the handlebars. It only lasted for about a second or two, but it almost pulled the grips out of my hands and felt as if it might go into oscillation. I figured it would have done that with any bike. Something similar happened on a two-wheeler when I hit an edge trap. I decided to have Squared Away do the alignment at Spyderfest, mainly because it is likely to help tires last longer. They found my alignment wasn't off by much, but enough to make it worth fine tuning.

Since my ride was good in the first place, I didn't notice any major difference on my way home - until I hit that same rough spot. A world of difference! Now it was just a rough spot - no side-to-side vibration, no oscillation. I'm very pleased.

Welcome ..now you are a believer

When I was in Florida with Mike the inventor of True Laser Track patented alignment system for the Spyders …..he had mentioned some dealers get it and some don’t. And also mentioned that the alignment is only as good as the technicians performing it…some do it completely correct and some do it ….shall we say “close enough” He was joking with me that someone called him a NASCAR guy and that he was way too fussy on his alignments…which he replied it is like winning the race or finishing 5th…winning is all I know !!
Mike went on to say Joe and Ann are the BEST….Mike watched them work at Spyderfest in 2014….and had nothing to correct them on…they had it….THEY GOT IT…I am so glad you had Joe and Ann there.

I just e mailed Cristal ....last count as of 7-11-2015

2014 done twice

Alignment done twice on my 2014 --- don't dare let go of the handle bars or I'll end up in a ditch on the right. 2010 was aligned; it ran great -- my brother and daughter had their bikes aligned and those bikes are fine. Don't have a clue what is wrong with mine?? Arm gets tired holding the bike straight down the road. It will go into the shop soon for 3,000 mile first check up and maybe the dealer can spot a problem. We'll see.

I have been informed by Spydercomfort (Inventor of the laser system) that they will be in Sedona, AZ October 31-November 6th. I love visiting the beautiful city of Sedona, and will take this opportunity to see if my Spyder needs alignment. They told me that they would check it at no charge, and I will only have to pay if it needs alignment.

Right now, I am able to ride hands-free on the freeway and she stays true. I have no compulsion to try to fix something of which no evidence of a problem exists, but I always keep an open mind.

Don,
put the bike on a jack. Swap front tires, see if it pulls the other way. We have seen that several times; a bad tire will do that. Then swap back. Let us know. Joe
