I always find it interesting when there are brackets, but nothing in them. Any clue what could go in here? This is under the left cover next to the trunk release.

Can't really tell from the photo. Not sure what you mean by left cover next to trunk...

That's the frunk, not the trunk...
I don't know the answer, but someone else will now we know you're talking about the front compartment (frunk)
if I might throw a guess out , could this be the attachment area for the screen looking thing that is at the lower location of the oil tank/ add area , of the r-t `s ? ( that or this is part of the engine harness , for techs to put engine in and out , or handle it while in service ? )
you have 2 brackets in that area , mmmmmmmmmm wondering if there is something that can be purchased and also an add on that some models might be able to attach here ?

That's kinda what I was hoping to find out. Interesting about the jump start.
The other thing is that these units are made for the international market and european models for one have some different requirments. There could be something they use elsewhere that goes there that is not used here... they make just one frame and then build it accordingly like the wiring harnesses having plugs not used....

Is the space you are taking about below the plug-in for the buds?

Joel is correct. The 2013 RT models had positive and negative jump start posts on a bracket there. It was a one year only feature. Maybe BRP engineers determined there wasn't enough call to jump start Spyders to justify the cost of having it there.

That makes sense. They moved the battery so it is easier to get to if a jump start in required. No need anymore for the extra terminals. Just did not re-engineer the brackets.....? Jim

Not quite. The 2010 - 2012 RTs have the battery in the rear but no jumper posts. The 2013 has the battery in the front and the jumper posts. 2014 on have the battery in the front and no jumper posts. Go figure!!
The jumper posts on the 2013 were great for connecting accessory power cables!

2012 spyders had jumper posts under the seat. ( my first spyder was a 2012 rts-se5).
Also the battery was underneath the seat.

I wondered about that as I didn't think the battery was that accessible, but I didn't see any indication of them on the parts diagram pic of the positive and ground cables. Maybe I just didn't look close enough! Or, I guess I could've looked in the owner's manual! They're shown there but labelled terminals, not posts.

Pish posh, who looks at the owners manual!? That's like reading installation instructions.....

The battery was hidden behind the left saddlebag... The jumper terminals were actually a pretty necessary item on these bikes.
Remember the fun that you could have; after loosening the screws that were in the terminals? (Try getting a wrench underneath them in order to tighten them back up... )

I connected the "pig tail" to the battery, to run the battery/maintainer to keep the battery charged ( it had the 998 engine). Deanna
