Good morning everyone. Well I've read alot that the stock antenna on the 2014 RT can be tough to remove. I think mine is stock. It was on it when I bought it last year. I've watched a couple of videos and read on Big Bikes that you should make sure you can get it off before buying the shorter antenna. Well mine had marks on it like someone messed with it before but I got it off with a pair of needle nose vicegrips but I sounded like a nut on the bottom inside fell off when it came off. Is there a nut from the bottom to hold it on?
Thanks, Mike
Okay, when you have a radio antenna and a cb antenna isn't the radio on the dravers left. That one is about a 13mm and the one on the right looks like a 7mm but I thought that was the cb. When I removed the left one it sounded like a nut fell down inside. I've never had a cb so if I want to use it what do I need to do (local/state laws) and what can it do for me? Thanks, Mike

When standing at the rear facing forward (this should be the same left and right as you describe) the radio antenna is on the right.
Duh, ya can't fix stupid. I realized that after looking at some pics and videos. I now wonder what dropped inside when I removed the cb antenna. Thanks, Mike

Thanks everyone. I got the antenna on (I did not use locktight yet) and it works. I noticed that on AM 67 (the Cub's station) I get a whine on the station and it does not seem to be there on any fm or other am staions. It also gets some static on that station. We gotta do some more riding to check it out. Any ideas. Thanks, Mike
I wonder if the reception is any better or worse with the short antenna. I just got back from a 3800 mile trip, I lose a radio station every 5-10 minutes on my 2014 RTS. I'm glad my iPod works, but I think I'm gonna have to invest in satellite radio.
Yep, it's true. A 7MM socket will remove the old antenna. Now what? I saw on another post that the 2013 and earlier models had their antennas in there really tight, and they were right. Guess I'll be ordering another part before I order a shorty antenna.
Reception on the radios leaves a bit to be desired. We have the radios on both our RT's--and hardly ever use them. There are a couple scenic rides where we like to listen to country tunes--the only station we can get in our rural area. Long or short antenna does not make a difference for us. Mountain ranges make a difference--and we have a lot of them in our area.

My antenna broke off also. Tried a shorty and very poor reception, Rethreaded an auto antenna, they are the same leangth as original and it works great,

Doesn't matter to us either, and it's the wife's bike. But now there's a hole I have to fix or maybe I'll just plug it
If you can't get a plug for that hole order one for the other side, the CB antenna hole. If I remember right it'll work but you'll have to modify the tabs to fit. Left and right plugs are different.

That's what I used to remove mine.

Bumping this as I rode my bike to work and when I went to put the cover on I realized the antenna and boot were missing! I don't know if it fell off or someone took it but since I wanted to put on a shorty or plug it altogether I'm wondering if anyone has an antenna recommendation at this point. I don't use the radio as opposed to the Sena and phone connection for music etc. If I plug it anyone know where I can get one? Pearl White 15 RTL. Feel free to tell me to do some research, I've done absolutely none having just arrived at work.

No sure since I have not been able to get mine off. I think you have to cut the boot off so you can get to the nut. Some say to twist the antenna until it breaks and then you can get to the nut. I have not been able to snap mine by twisting with pliers. If you have better luck, tell us how you did it.
When it comes to antennas, size is king. Optimum 1/4 wave for FM is 31-inches and you will be hard pressed to find one that long to fit your Spyder. You can forget about this as for a 1/4 wave AM antenna at 1000kHz would be 234-feet long! As far as CB radio is concerned, you will have to go with the factory BRP CB antenna or something similar. Probably a wound or coiled whip. Remember ... 1/4 wave CB antennas are 109-inches long! I've just found that my factory AM/FM antenna spins freely in its mount, SO ... I'm gonna have to look into this myself. N2YVK 73's
A 7mm open ended wrench should remove the stock antenna.
Also, use a 7mm deep socket wrench.
