Auxiliary fuel tank
Has anyone made an auxiliary fuel tank for the spider to get a longer range? I'm going on a large trip across north western United States from Detroit Michigan with two other motorcycles a Honda Gold wing in a Yamaha tannery they both can go 250 miles on one tank where my spider RS can only go 150!!! 15 years ago I plumbed in a 5 gallon gas tank on a rack into my vent line on my snowmobile and that gave me an extra 75 mile range!has anyone attempted such a feat??

AUX. GAS TANK
....Yes it has been done ..... It did cost around $400.00 , He lost almost all of the front trunk......So imho it wasn't worth it...BECAUSE.....If you are going on a LONG trip you probably have a trailer, because a STOCK RS only has the FRUNK ...... So take a gas can........If they are friends , they won't mind if have to get gas.............................Mike

They have...
If you search you may find the one Mike is talking about. Very nicely done and there have been others doing what you did on the snowmobile. I do some distance driving and find that a stop every 100 miles makes the trip much more enjoyable. A good stretch, gas and snack and back on the road. I do carry a liter fuel bottle just in case I push a bit to far....

You can also get a REDA portable gas can.
Or, as already said, you can get the 1330 ACE.
I'm not sure converting one of the storage compartments to fuel is such a good idea, but to each their own.
Good Luck and let us know how you make out.

Well personally, IMHO, I like to stop and get off the bike about every 120 miles anyhow. Maybe cause I'm getting a little long in the tooth, but I feel refreshed, alert and ready to go again afterwards, and I usually have a drink and get hydrated while stopped. Still make lots of miles in a day.

I like to stretch it to 180 to 220 miles between stops...
The 1330 works perfectly for that scenario!

Also my feelings exactly. Need to get off, stretch, rejuvenate, potty stop, etc. every 100 miles or so. The days of 250 mile plus stops on a ride are long gone for me.
Reminds me of the days when I traveled the canoe country. We would see groups of kayakers whizzing by us so they could make the next bunch of lakes as quick as possible. IMO, they missed all the scenery, the opportunity to catch a "big one," and the ambience of camping on your very own private lake. Their loss, my gain.

Hmm, that seems like an awfully expensive way to solve this problem. I think I'd consider carrying a gas can first.

Even though the Spyder has the legs I prefer to stop more frequently to stay fresh for my own safety. That's not to say I don't get a touch of "gethomeitis" on the return from Spyderfest. Gethomeitis years ago was ranked as the number one cause of naval aviation accidents and may still be so.

Few options
As shown above there are few ways people gave added spare gas. Im looking at
http://www.tourtank.com myself. I just need few more parts (BRP sports rack). For the way i want to mount it. Here is a pic of a fuel cell some one posted on a similar threadimage.jpg image.jpgimage.jpg i think the tour-tank(like seen here on my buds VTX)or fuel cell is better external option as getting more miles you will want to tour & carry more stuff. Of course a spare can like a rotopax or image.jpg whatever if you got the room. The person i got my my tank from said they simply drilled the gas cap & had a gravity feed line run to it. Im wanthing to try something more secure & proper

I use the trailer hitch brackets to make a platform for the fuel cell. Electric fuel pump to pump it up to the fuel cap. VW fuel caps will work in a Spyder RT. I drilled a hole in the fuel cap and run the fuel line into it.

Auxiliary fuel tank
We were riding in southern Utah today, my wife's 2012 RT went 185 miles on 5 1/2 gallons of gas. Our friends RS took 4.55 gallons for the same miles, so there is some range there. We carry a Reda 1 gallon can with us.

I am not about to lose my Fronk as you noted I need all my storage my friends and I stop at all the states signs for a photo op I'll dump my gasin then and then yes they will stop when I need gas but knowing I have a couple gallons on the backseat strapdown I will push the range a little further than I usually do! I would love to buy the ace 1330 but can't say I care for the F3 styling and I'm not old enough for an RT! See all of you in Valcourt Qc next year when they pull the sheets off the 2018 the tilting RSS should be the new model next year a beautiful little three wheel crotch rocket that will take corners faster than any vehicle ever made! Never cared for the V-twin too much vibration too hard on gas that triple must be just stellar!!

Somebody posted a neat little emergency tank that bolted to the bottom of the left side case. Think it held 2 liters of fuel and was double sealed. Looked kinda like a red fire extinguisher from the back. I thought about getting one and then made a carry spot on our trailer for an extra gallon. In all that time I never have had to use it. One time I went a little long, fuel light came on and not stations for 30 miles. That was just a little sketchy....... Wife kept hitting me in the back saying, "You idiot!" hahahaha
