I done the same a little while back. I added some of the 1/8 inch chrome strips to it and kind of gave it a little flash. Works good and is visible especially at night time. I am thinking of adding some more for running lights. This is a good alternative to the high buck units, those really look great, but some of us on somewhat limited income have to make do till we can do better. This method is cheap but effective for the intended purpose. Good video on the how to, it is a little time consuming but the outcome is well worth it.
And I agree, $240 for a LED light just seems way out of line. Although I realize the molding, etc cost a lot to make something from scratch that actually looks stock!
But for me, I have to save on some things, and if I can do it myself and still be functional and OK looking, Yea baby!.
I think the "Other Bob" might agree since his leash is rained in tight

Some of the trunk racks mount parallel to the ground and the light will show underneath.

or.....
depending on the rack you are getting, as was said above, if its parallel to the ground, this will work
or.....
you might be able to place the LEDs along the edge of the rack..... hmmmm.......

Advance auto. they sell the chrome trim in 1/8 inch and 1/4 inch. I used the 1/4 inch on the fender trim. It comes in a roll of quite a few feet.

Great idea and great video. I just bought the light strips and gonna do mine next rain day. Just a thought, any reason I can't use one strip for running lights and the other for the brakes ? And thanks again fantastic idea

No reason at all! Just tap one strip into the break lights and another into the running lights.
Let me just say though. I want the break lights noticed! That was the entire idea behind this. Some state may have laws about how high a running light can be. So be aware of that.
If it were me, I would buy 3 strips. 2 for break and another for riding and put that just below the rear trunk latch handle. That's just my opinion.

Bob I picked up the lights yesterday and will do the mod this weekend, if i can convince the primary rider to stay parked long enough. even with out the light part I now know how to take off those rear panels thanks,
oh and what's this in the follow ups about a chrome strip? Pictures?
