SHIFING
Took my wifes 2014 Can Am Spyder STS SE5 out for my first ride today. Went about 30 miles and it rides really nice. We live in the country mostly back roads so it seems i spent a lot of time in 3rd gear rpms aroud 4000/4500. She was told keep the rpms around 5000/5500 or so . What is the correct way to shift these bikes. Semi Automatic. She told me she stays in second gear alot to keep those rpms up. I did notice going into the turns it was better for me leaning forward a little and get into turns . Its not my Goldwing Trike but it would be fun to ride from time to time. Any suggestions

Ride it more! Sounds like you're doing fine, the engine was made for high RPM's. I've got a 13 RTL that has pegged 12k on the tach at times when I'm driving it like an ST. Though I do normally keep it above 4k unless I'm coming to a stop. Still running strong.

I tend to shift between 3-4000. The 1330 does not need to run at higher RPMs like the 998'

Doing great....
Don't know if it was explained to you but so you know the reason for the high rpm is the clutch on the twin is not fully engaged till your above 3,400 rpm's. So ryding under that you are basically slipping the clutch and it will wear out prematurely. Being a 5 speed you would not be in 5th gear until your over 70 mph...Not to worry these engine are very happy at high rpm mine runs most the time between 6 and 8,000. You get used to it...

The 998 likes high rpm's. 5000 - 5500 or higher gives best engine response.
Low speeds, first and second gear is right on. I drove Hana Highway in HI (50 plus miles), tight turns and low speeds everywhere. Never got out of first gear.
Planting the outside foot and leaning slightly into the curves will lessen the "g" forces and make your ride easier. If you have to brake at the entry to a curve--your speed is to fast.

So how do you keep the rpm's up on the 1330 when your in cruise control. If am doing forty and i shift i can get into 6th gear and the rpm's are about 2200. Are you saying i shouldn't be in 6th gear but a lower gear to maintain 3k+ rpm's???? I'm new to this whole thing never rode a bike or trike.

The 1330 uses completely different shift points. It doesn't need the high RPM's.

The 1330 shift points are 3000 - 3500. This is the "happy" spot.
60 mph in 6th will give you about 3500 when in cruise control.
The gear that gives you mid 3000's should be gear you are riding in--for best performance.
40 mph--I would recommend third gear.
