New member to the family!!

Hi all,

I have recently got the thumbs up from my wife to pull the trigger on a new Spyder-

I owned a cruiser bike in the past but sold it after watching a good friend we were riding with get into a serious accident.

That was 8 years ago and I think I'm ready to be free again on the road. This time on 3 wheels!!!

Do be honest, I have never ridden a Spyder but have friends with them and know the difference in turning of the Spyder versus 2 wheels.

I am going to test drive one in the next couple weeks. I know I will love it as ALL the people I know do.

Any additional info. from all of you experienced owners would be very welcome and appreciated.

The one thing I did experience on 2 wheels was arm fatigue because I am shorter and wasn't able to adjust the bars on my bike.

I think the first accessory I will get on the new bike is the tri axis handlebars. I assume this will eliminate my problem.

I really look forward to chatting on here and learning all I can.

Depends which model you get. RT has the tri-axis bars, F3 has the u-fit bars and moveable pegs or footboards.

well Tri Axis bar is an accessory you will have to buy, its not standard.

Are you buying it from Banner?

Probably- They are the only game in the Okanagan valley- Both Vernon and Kelowna are Banner dealerships.

You obviously know the area. Any insight ?

Banner is a good dealership.....look at the non current models, you will have way more room for negotiation.

You will love it and congrats! Keep in mind -- you may not feel comfortable for a couple of hundred miles. You may not even like it but you will learn to love it. If you have any experience on a snowmobile or quad you will be fine. Try and ride with a loose grip. hanging on too hard will transmit every little movement in you arms to the steering and it will feel very "twitchy". Just give it time.

The 2018 has the new dash that looks fantastic. Kelowna does have 2 new 2017 RT Limited models. They have them listed about 2500 less then the

'18. I am thinking the depreciation is about that on day 1. So not sure if it makes sense?

that's where your negotiation skills come in, grind them down.

PS. I'll ride up there and join you for your first local tours, your home region is on my bucket list of rides. Vineyards to majestic mountain views, that's pretty hard to beat....

I too have been on motorcycles my whole life. I love my Spyder. The key to getting used to the Spyder was not the loose grip for me. For others, it helps them. My grip has not changed much as I moved to the Spyder. The key for me was getting miles under my belt and giving my brain a chance to reprogram to the Spyder. The second factor that went along way with assisting me was my laser alignment. I have never owned one of the showroom floor but from what people on this forum tell me, the factory alignment leaves a lot to be desired. I know that when I first got the Spyder, I felt I had less control and was all over the road. Small input on the Spyder equals sudden change where as I always felt the motorcyle rate of change was proportionate to the input. In the past 30 days, I have put 2000 miles on my Spyder and I am completely comfortable. I can see ever moving back to two wheels. This is not to say I wont own one in addition to my Spyder. My brain is now on three wheels and I feel like I have plenty of control on the Spyder. They are a blast to ryde. There are a lot of post in this forum regarding the ride and acclamation. Plenty of people are eager to offer assistance and criticism (so be ready). This is a great forum and has been invaluable for me.

Congrats getting the okay. Just think of it as a 3 wheeled sports car with handlebars rather than a motorcycle and you will love the experience.

...and to a new Spyder. Here is my input:

1. Riding a big cruiser - mine was a VTX 1800 - is a thrill and there is nothing like the feelings of riding one.
2. Riding a Spyder is a thrill and there is nothing like the feelings of riding one.

Each has its own unique features and I have not been disappointed "giving up" the VTX and getting our Spyder. Riding 2 up, I like the freedom of riding and then not needing to balance and put a foot down when I stop. I like making a right-hand turn from a stop and not drifting into the wrong lane because I felt like I was losing balance. I like the reverse and not feeling the slipping and uncertainty of trying to back to a 2-wheeler into a space, especially on loose gravel like a church parking lot or the ice cream stand. These are the reasons I gave up our VTX.

I like the speed and torque of the Spyder. I like all the room ours has (2010 RT SM5) because we travel a lot and space for our stuff. I like the stability in wind and passing those semis on the interstates. I like the looks. We are happy with our Spyder.

Enjoy your test ride. I recommend giving it a thousand miles or so before putting on to many ride modification items. You may be comfortable without the tri-axis bars.

There is a posting at the beginning of this forum: "Does and Don'ts for New Spyder Ryders" that is very informative. I've be riding the Spyder for a few years now, and still refer to it occasionally.
