Zumo 550 Help

I purchased the unlimited map updates. When I went to download the 48 states it said not enough memory. I could only update the north east section. am i doing something wrong? how do I get the United States on my Zumo I am illiterate so pics and directions will help...please

You are not illiterate.

The Zumo 550 has been superceded with the newer designs with more memory in them.

The problem is, the damn things are nearly bulletproof, so it's hard to justify replacing a perfectly good unit.

The Zumo 550 has VERY limited memory compared to the new 660 and 665...It just won't hold all of the data on the maps today...

I can only load the eastern half of the US on my 550. So far it's not an issue but at some point I may want to cross the Mississippi! I guess the toll will be a new unit

Sorry you are having issues! I use a Garmin and haven't had any problems. I haven't used the Zumo, but that seems nuts that it wouldn't load some basic maps...??

You load the Eastern U.S. on the Garmin and then the rest of the U.S. and Canada on a SD card
Call Garmin and they will walk you through the process.

There would have been a time, a few years back, when all the USA maps would have fitted onto your 550 but later Garmin models have more memory available and the map detail has expanded accordingly. We're not talking about new road detail here, additional mapping means built into your sat-nav are more choices, or destinations you can make for places to eat, fill up with gas, visit a hospital, etc.

You won't need a SDHC card above 4GB. I ignore the base memory and load all of Western Europe onto the card. The Garmin reads the card as quickly as it reads from its built-in memory, (or appears to), so there is no difficulty or penalty when using a card. I don't want to part with my 550, we've been together for many years and still does the job. I look upon it now as an old friend. :thumbup:

When I bought my 660, I made sure I would have enough room for whatever I needed, so I installed a 16Gb memory card.

I now have room for US maps, as well as all the music and audio books I would ever need. Don't be bashful with the size of the memory card, FWIW.
