• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Your Ideas please?

Hard to say..!!

when clicking on the pictures the enlargment is blurred. Maybe some one else can recognize that area from the smaller picture. Could you add some info like year, model, mileage..?? :gaah:

2014 w 1200 miles would definitely go to the shop for a fix.

And no 3 week fix, better be done pronto!

No reason for such a leak on a new vehicle !!!!!

I agree. Looks like the case seam not sealed properly. Try to give us a location as you sit on the bike. I am guessing just behind the front floorboard on the right side as you sit on the bike. If so, that is probably the transmission case cover leaking. Definately a warranty repair by the dealer. If that is the location/part, you might want to call a few dealers and see if they have the gasket in stock. You may luck out and it might just be RTV. Doubt they will stock the gasket, but it might speed up the turn-around time. Let us know what you find. Odds are, there may be a few more out there leaking the ryder has not caught yet. I just had mine on the lift last week and it was good.

:yikes:.....It's said that a picture is worth a thousand words, However I have not memorized what every part on every Spyder looks like yet, also my Crystal Ball is on the fritz..............So give us some words to go with this PIC or just figure it yourself ..................just sayin.....Mike

If you found that drop of oil, before going to the dealer for warranty or getting worked up, clean up the mess and dry it with brake cleaner or similar. Then run it and see if you can find the actual leak location.

That drip could be simply an oil change residue. if the bike never had an oil change maybe oil was spilled when new service was being done, possibly that machine has the leaky oil galley plug and needs that service bulletin accomplished. Or then again, maybe it is a good old fashioned leak from a gasket. In a worse case, that machine has porous castings on the engine and it's weeping.

All the best with it.

The pictures are from the bottom front right side of the motor.
I started smelling burning oil around 1100 miles.
The dealer can not find a leak :banghead:

It could be the set screw problem that was first noted on the early 14 RT models. Have your dealer pull up the early bulletins. It's a simple fix, they remove the screw and put Loctite on it and reinstall it.

See post one it has the link to the service http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?62942-2014-s-with-oil-leaks&highlight=screw+leak

Hello all...
I called the dealer yesterday and now they can confirm a oil leak..but they are having trouble finding it.
The build date of it is October 2014 so there saying its probably not the set screw.
Its been there a week as of today with no known release date.

Not telling them how to do their job, sometimes this works. Clean the suspect area. Ensure it is dry. Run the machine and then dust with talcum powder. The leak will darken the powder and be obvious wet.

All the best with it.

What about dye in the oil? A UV light will readily show the source of the leak. Works on automobiles.

It is easier to use a powder-based spray deodorant than talcum powder in hard to get to places. I would first clean the area with spray cleaner, dry then do the powder thing. If it is a seam or leaking screw it will show up fast.

Yes, that works well also. Just considering they may have talcum powder for doing tubes before they may want themselves to stink less. Both are good.

The dye in oil works also, just is more complicated to accomplish if you don't have the dye an light.

Consider also, the leak may be very small and it could be better to hold off until an oil change. Yes under warranty, but it may be less down time and if you wait, you may get the oil change under warranty. Just a thought.

They did use the dye. The service manager calles me Thursday saying they can't find a oil leak but think I have a antifreeze leak.
I asked what color dye did they use...he stated green...
I just about died laughing at the guy.

Yes the leak is very small. I kinda wish I would of just kept it. Already a good week of weather missed and here in Minnesota we have a short season as it is.

And just to add the dealer is a platinum dealer.

PLATINUM DEALER

Unfortunately this rating has little or Nothing to do with the service department ........more to do with Sales ......IMHO......Mike
