• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

So, guess what?

I finally got my spyder back after two months in the shop for DPS issue. The weather was not looking too good here in WI, but I as ryde the 20 miles I have to get home from the dealer, the sky starts clearing out, so I thought I'll be able to ryde all day and renew with with beloved spyder.

Half way home, the spyder completely shuts down in the middle of the freeway and gives me a "Check DPS" error message. I pull over turn off spydie, wait a few minutes and start it again. I still have an error message, but the spyder seems to want to go. Power steering is working fine, but still an error message.

I make it home, power it down again, play with the fuse a bit, power it back on and there you go, no more message.

What could be going on? Should I be concerned? I'll probably try to ryde the streets around my house to test it before I go too far, but wanted to know what other spyderlovers had to say.

Can't wait to ryde worry free.
 
Yep !:agree:After 2 months in the garage to do a job which takes a day,, take the bike out and drive it to the limit,, of its limit,, not the speed limit,, unless in third gear.

I had the same thing . . . .

. . . . about a week after I had my DPS replaced. But, reseating the fuses cleared the problem.

Now, sometimes after riding long stretches of dirt roads, when I get out on the pavement, the dash will display some errors. Pressing the fuses in clears them every time.

I hope yours is the same. Your plan ( unlike the ballsy open-throttle crew above ) sounds the best course - test it and confirm that was ( most likely ) the problem. After you have run it through a bunch of miles in your controlled testing, then ride it like you paid for it and get all the smiles you can.

If the errors pop up again, especially at higher speeds [50 - 80mph] - take it back to the shop, ASAP.

I just went for another short ride and it did it again. Just like last time I reseated the fuses and the error cleared.

I'll go buy additional foam to add pressure in the fuse box and see if it happens again.
 
Mine had too, but it has already taken the shape of the relays. I just came back from Home depot and performed surgery on the fuse box. Now it is time for another test.
 
Went for another short ride after adding some padding to the fuse box and got Limp mode twice on 15 miles.
Back to the dealer.

I think I'm about done now. I'll start looking for alternatives. I will call BRP again and I hope they step it up this time otherwise, I'll be riding something else before the end of the season.

I'm really pissed off because I really like the spyder.

I know how you feel, the wife and I bailed on both of our Spyders because of all the problems and down time. We loved them but enough was enough! Good luck!:spyder:

I agree, it is damned frustrating. When Lola is on the road, she is the most wonderful bike, but Sheesh! How many things can go wrong with a new bike, and take so many attempts to fix? :gaah:

Lola is on probation until the end of the warranty period in November. One more serious failure and she gets a feature spot on ebay. :lecturef_smilie:

I found that I didn't have any codes for DPS failure, despite it refusing to turn right, *until* I pulled the DPS motor fuse. Ironically, she was easier to ride with the fuse pulled. Make sure that they check the wiring on yours. Good luck.

I moved to Germany with my 2009 SE5. I am not a mechanic and after reading all the stuff that can go wrong with these Spyders, am getting a bit concerned. I've had no known trouble with mine, except at about 47mph it gets rough, then stops at higher speed. My mechanics here don't speak English and am not about to even try all that tech stuff you all seem so good at. Now, I am getting scared of riding Sunshine on the Autobahn, even though I love the darn thing!:gaah:

We are riding Suzuki Boulavards, a C90T and a C50T and no problems at all with 3500 miles already on the C90T and 3000 miles on the C50T.
But we do miss the Spyders so hopefully they can get them to where they are as dependable as the metric bikes and we will return to at least an RTS.
 
If you have a salvage yard near by... you can get them from many salvaged foreign brands for next to nothing.

Also a while back there was an issue with tyco relays having intermittent failures or total failures with no warning.

The best I've seen to date are the masterpro and BW... priced in the 8 to 30 range depending on whether the large or small and where you buy. Here in the south I have found O'Riley's seems to have the best price on them... priced toward the lower end of the price range. I was lucky and found they are good insurance after I had the spares in the trunk. Ken krb1945

Changed all three relays tonight, added a decent amount of insulation foam to the fuse box. I thought I was doing fine after 35 miles, but no luck. I got another Check DPS message.

I guess it is a call to my mechanic and Carlo tomorrow.

Please pray for me that it does not take another two months to get fixed.
