Would You Buy a Used 2013 STS LTD?

I am looking at a used 2013 STS Ltd with backrest, larger factory windshield and comfort seat. It has approx 14000 mi on it, mostly highway and back tire has been replaced. It has warranty till next April. The owner has had any recalls done but not the switch to the 2014 panels. Price is 18500 Cdn. Seems like a reasonable deal. Thoughts? I know some say to stay away from 2013 but are there issues beyond the heat issue?

panels

I have a 13 ST limited SE5 - WITH the airflow panels - highly recommend that you arrange for the panels through a dealer before you buy.
Other things we've done - JT air filter, cat remove (just done and love the sound), wrap some pipes, swaybar. Comfort issues we've done - topbox (non-BRP) which includes passenger backrest (only occasional passenger) - well, that's it really - the standard screen at its lowest suits me, it came with heated grips, footboards and saddlebags/panniers. The only thing left for me is to change the seat to a reduced-reach (as I'm not tall!) and it'll be absolutely perfect - I don't fancy cutting into the seat to put on the only drivers backrest I've found for the ST (utopia). (We would use the smoothspyder backrest but I'm all set for the passenger, so it doesn't suit us.)
SO it depends for you on price I guess - but I do urge you to arrange the panels (or ask the seller to get the dealer to get the panels in pre-sale - they are really simple to swap over). Ours runs beautifully and I love it. Husband has now traded his 2-wheels for an F3 so we're both happy campers.
As a buyer I'd argue that the 13 should be a lot cheaper than a similarly used 14 model ST with similar warranty - on 'reputation' and 'resale value' more than actual riding value... As a seller of course I'd argue differentlly LOL
Note also that SM5 should be cheaper than SE5.
Hope this helps.
Just one extra thought - are you able to run the one you like into a dealer and get a BUDS code report? Might highlight any issues it may have...

Not sure..!!

about Canadian prices but the ST's were not the model with problems and having the recall work done (which has solved the issue). 2013 RT's are the ones with the recall work being done... At this point all 2013's are a good buy...:2thumbs:

Keep in mind that in U S dollars this would be 20% less..

I am in Canada and our $ is running a lot lower than yours. Where have you seen a 2013 STS Limited for 13500? Cheapest one I can find is going to cost me over $20000 Cdn if I bring it in from the U.S. by the time I pay exchange and taxes at the border. $18500 is about 14300 U.S.

I agree price might be just a little high even in Canada dollars, but maybe not:dontknow:. I would definately try to get the 2014/15 style air flow panels included and the dealer should not have to pay for them either.

Once I had the air flow panels installed and the primary muffler bypass installed I removed JT's air filter as it was not needed. I also have 14000 miles on my ST Limited and have had no mechanical or electrical issues at all.

Good luck with what ever you choose. Dont wait too long the riding season is going to get really short to the north.
