Any news with the battery Bob? Did he even get in touch with you? Bad things could happen if you accidentally short out a battery and it didn't seem like that guy was aware of that. I'm a bit concerned because we didn't hear more.

Ok sorry for the delay, let me give you an update.
finless Bob is coming over to my house next Saturday the 4th to put in new battery.:yes::2excited:

When I read that I would need to remove the rest of the panels and mirror to jump start, I got scared.
I only know how to remove the cover to check the oil.

I am signed up to go to the NorCal Spyder event in September.
So if I don't get her running, then I will miss out on a lot of fun.
I still need an oil change and will have time to do that at Berts Mega mall, and you can wait while they do the work:thumbup:

Need to have my RT622 wheel bearings repacked to be safe for the trip too. Dealership said it was a lot of work and quoted $275

So after procrastinating, and researching the battery, and procrastinating and calling the dealerships, procrastinating
some more. I located the battery, and will be picking up tomorrow.

I reached out to Bob yesterday with his generous offer, he got back to me this morning and he is coming over next Saturday.
He is coming from 40 miles away which can take over an hour to get here.:bowdown:

Thank you all for your help, support and encouragement. I will follow up in this thread with the final outcome.
In hindsight this will be my 3rd battery in 8 ½ years, the first one lasting 5 years, and this one 3 ½ years, with much less mileage on her.(which probably shortened the life)
So I suppose jump starting could have ended up stranding me farther away from home.

No panel removal to jump start. Just lift the seat. The jumper posts are there. Now to change out the battery on the other hand. A bunch of panels come off.

Ask Bob to bring a voltmeter with him. After he has changed out the battery. Check the system voltage while running. Should be around 14V. Just to confirm the charging system is working properly.

These things are bad on batteries, in my personal experience. My wife has had hers (2010 RTS SE5) for about 5 years and is on it's 3rd battery. We keep our bikes tendered if we don't ride for a week or more. The last battery I replaced wasn't quite 2 years old. She was having starting issues that stopped when I changed the battery.

Hey Ricky, is the RT full of the electrical stuff (radio, communication with other cycles, auto air ride, extra light packages, and/or fog lights, parachute... OK, the last one I just added :roflblack: ) I am not sure of what cause or reason of all the battery failures, I do not have the radio or convenience packages on our 2012, so I am wondering if this is a good thing in the power management of the battery?!
Question #2 - to all who might know, if you have the air ride system, will the pump activate while the cycle is off? Like a car`s air bag system, will it pump up if it senses a lower level in the rear?
Question #3 - is it hard to re-roll the parachute at each red light? :yikes: ... OK, that's just me again :roflblack: ...

whats happening, and came to my rescue and installed a new
Yuasa battery.

Only needed to take off just the one main left side panel.

The battery that was removed most likely had a bad cell, cuz when he put a load on it dropped to 5 volts! :yikes:

One of the connections was loose, so that could have contributed, but since I had over 3 years on this battery, safer to install new! :yes:

Going riding today! :riding:

Have the battery being charged to 100% first



and now I know how to charge her as well. Thanks Bob and others on Spyderlovers for your help! :dg1:
