Why does it take so long for a shop to do a basic clutch job.

Had a clutch issue and took my 2011 RT in for a bleed and to change out the O-rings inside if needed. It took them a week and a half to tell me that I did in fact have a bad O ring and that is where my leak is coming from. So I said how long is this job slated for to fix. The service manager said 1hour. I then said so it has taken you a week and a half to do a bleed of the line and to open up the case to see that it needs an O ring? Now I have to wait for BRP to approve the warranty work and then wait for them to purchase the 3 O rings that will amount to around $20. So he said I'll try to get it done by Next Friday. :banghead: Seriously I could have ordered the parts, and did the job in a morning. Darn it!!!!! But It's under warranty and I figured I would save some money. Not!!! Still will cost me the $50 for a deductible. Live and learn. Still baffeled that they sat on this job for so lone. They are a reputable shop and have been in business for over 30 yrs. I bought my first motorcross bike there when I was a kid.

I can't say for sure anything about your dealership but in general the major weakness of BRP is their dealer net.

At the Zinc Rated Dealership closest to me I would say before the kids tackle anything other than an oil change they call in techs from BRP either to do the work or supervise it over the phone.

It seems to me that the Honda & Harley Shops are, in general, much more equipped for Service.
The Spyder is a wonderous and complicated beast that requires more than a metric wrench set and hammer to service properly.

My next door neighbor bought a used 2011 RT SM5 from a dealer a long way away. Not practical to take it back to them. After about a month he found the clutch was leaking fluid. He called my dealer, who he had never dealt with before. They told him to bring it in that afternoon and drop it off. I went down to pick him up. Quick inspection to confirm what we told them was correct. Really obvious because DOT 4 dripping from the clutch cover. No parts in stock so they would have to order them. Two days later my neighbor called and said the dealer called. They started putting it together and it would be ready by the time we got there. I took him down to pick it up. Neighbor paid the $50 deductible and off he went, with it fix.

That is how it should have went for you.

"Zinc" isn't really all that bad...
"Pewter" is just one step up,
and
"Lead"
"Mud"
and "Crap", are all well-below it!

Here's the thing....

The techs work on a percenatage basis. In a multi dealership they will always pick and choose to do what makes the most for them. BRP does have a problem stocking parts and the tech does not get paid till the job is done. spyders take up a lot of space and tend to get stuck in corners out of the way and hard to get to. So you have a lot working against you. This from working shops and dealing with the techs. A good service manager ( not best buds with all the tech's) can make things happen properly but many don't. Idealy they would have checked it ordered the parts and processed the claim all at once...:banghead:

I work :roflblack: just down the street from an established dealer and every morning they wheel out 20 to 30 units to be serviced, and at the end of the day they are wheeled back in the service area, + the units picked-up and droped off. This happens winter and summer rain or shine. This time of year they are 30 or so days out. This dealer has a good reputation and if you want there services you have to wait...just the way it is. :banghead:

Pewter is an alloy so I don't think it is a real classification.

I truly do wish BRP could find a way to address this very real problem.
The Spyder is a superb vehicle that needs to be assembled right, checked right and fixed right.
As owners we have the right to expect superior performance on all levels.
The build quality and performance of the Spyder are superior.
Unfortunately the superior rating ends at most dealers.

Would you buy a new Mercedes at the local Pizza Shop where the owner thinks he can fix anything?
No, I didn't think so.

Just for frame of reference...are Harley or Honda service departments any better? Harley has an extensive network...but no idea if either hold their service depts to high standards or not...

Not so bad, how about having your Spyder in the shop for 56 days while the dealer & BRP tries to sort out who is going to pay for what? Happened to me last year, lost two months of glorious fall & early winter riding. Some dealers are crap, but they have to kowtow to BRP in the long run. And, oh yeah, the parts supply chain sucks.
