• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Why do I need to synch helmet audio to '24 F3 to get Navi working?

We were unable to get the iphone's navi to work with the F3T's display, so we made a trip into the dealer. They told us that an update became available yesterday. (good timing) after a bunch of confusion, we (they) got it to work properly. Here's my question: Why is it required to sync the helmet (or headset) audio to the F3 in order to get the Navi to work? Certainly, many owners don't use a headset, helmet intercom, or even any helmet at all in some states. (luckily, we use Sena) What does syncing helmet audio have to do with the screen visual?

I don't know why CAN-AM required it, but the 2024 Spyder Operators Guide on Page 50 says:

==========
To use the Apple CarPlay, you must

1. Connect a compatible smartphone to the display via USB cable.
2. Pair a helmet audio system to the display via Bluetooth.

NOTE: If one of the two devices is not properly connected, Apple CarPlay can not be
used.
==========

At the top of Page 51 is also specifies which USB port you must use to connect to your phone:

"The USB port is located in the glove box."

After downloading and installing the software update to my Spyder, and connecting my iPhone and the Sena headset in my helmet as indicated in the Operators Guide, Apple Carplay works on my 2024 Spyder.

So you can hear the navigation directions clearly while riding?

But, why is it a requirement for the system to work? We don’t use the audio on the Navi. What about all those riders without helmets at all?Also, the F3T has its own audio speakers that could be used for Navi audio, if desired. Still makes no sense to us or our tech guy at the dealer.

I think its a legal eagle type of thing. Just like waze will not let you type a destination while underway because it is not "safe" to type and drive, you have to use voice commands while motion is detected.

Most likely they want to have siri available to take voice commands rather than type stuff in as to be "safer".

Okay, it makes no sense.

But it is still the way it works.

I'm not looking for someone to agree that it makes no sense (or, maybe it does make sense and I just don't see the sense). I'm looking for an explanation. I prefer to understand things.

I do understand that you want an explanation as to why you need to have your phone plugged into the glove box USB port, and have paired your headset.

CAN-AM has not offered a detailed explanation as to why you have to plug your iPhone into that USB port, or why you have to pair your headset via Bluetooth.
The only thing they have said is what's included in the Operators Guide.

Page 34:
The front USB port must be used to run Apple CarPlay.

1. Connect a compatible smartphone to the display via USB cable.
2. Pair a helmet audio system to the display via Bluetooth.

NOTE: If one of the two devices is not properly connected, Apple CarPlay can not be used.

If you do those things it works.

You'd have to ask Can-Am then. We are all just guessing.

To me, it does make sense that they would require in-ear navigation so that people are not being forced to watch the screen. This way, looking at the screen while riding is an option. If faced with a lawsuit where someone complained they wrecked because they were looking at the screen, Can-Am can say that was their choice, as they require in-ear audio, and the rider could have just followed the voice prompts.

For as long as I have seen apple car play in cars underlying the word CAR PLAY. This was started to work in cars first and than Honda motorcycles. Apple's always had it that you had to plug your phone in for it to work in your car. And then you could use the microphone button on your steering wheel to speak to Siri. They still have it the same way on a motorcycle. You have to have to plug in to your USB and have a microphone to talk to Siri. That why there is a microphone button on the left side handle bar cluster on a 2024 Spyder for apple car play to work correctly and to get the icon on the screen. So that's why you need a microphone on your bike. No microphone no ACP.

ACP will work wirelessly over WiFi in certain newer cars. But perhaps those automakers fool ACP into thinking the phone is plugged in, much like the USB wireless ACP adapters do.
