• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Who will be the closes??

OK, possible you can tell that I was a bit bored today after work.. I have always wanted to know what the weight of the spyder was by the weight of each tire on the ground.. Not sure what you call this however,, I took our bathroom scale to the garage today and rolled each tire on the scale, I took a picture of each one so I have the official results of the weight..

I have a 2008 RS..

Ok Joe try this, stand on your scale one foot at a time and then add the two numbers together and see what you come up with.:roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:

With just the front wheels rolled onto the scale the RT is exactly 40 lbs more than the RS
RT= 680 lbs
RS= 640 lbs

The only reason I have these figures is I was working with Elka to help figure out what they needed for springs on the RT.

I thought you could measure each corner individually but this show that I'm wrong about that idea or that it can't be done straight up but some formula manipulation is needed. The specs have the RS at 697 pounds. So it looks like to get an accurate weight at each corner and then figure front to back you need a scale under each wheel at the same time to get their respective weights.
There's no reason that you can't weigh each "wheel" independently. Just make sure that the Spyder is level. Riding the two wheels not being weighed up onto blocks the same thickness as the scale should do the trick.
The total of all three weighings is your total weight.
The sum of the two front wheels, in relation to the weight on the rear wheel will give you your center of gravity fore and aft.

It appears that I have gotta a few members interest.. As stated in the original post I only had a bathroom scale available to me so that is what I used to get the weight, wish I had a set of the race scales, probably would be a bit more accurate.. I will post the pictures tomorrow, its killing me not to post them right now but I will wait till tomorrow morning as planned... The results are interesting to me I'll let you know that..

I haven't weighed the Spyder but I've weighed several 2 wheelers by putting one wheel on a bathroom scale and one on an equal thickness block of wood. The results seemed accurate to me.

Joe, please post it tonight, as when your wife finds out what you did she will kill you :yikes:

Well here are the pictures along with the actually weights.. Total weight Rear tire was 288.00 lbs, Front Right was 254.0 lbs, and the Front Left was 267.5 making a total of 809.5.. Now they say that the dry weight of the spYder is 679 lbs,, so I guess its safe to say (yes I know it wasn’t a calibrated scale) that with the fluids and the extra stuff I have on the spYder is 130.5 lbs,, that just seems to be a lot since I ditched the factory exhaust and have a hindle to begin with.. The numbers surprised me a bit especially the 130.5lbs of added weight.. To add to it according to the spec it says that the “Total vehicle load allowed” is 440 lbs.. Now if you take 440 lbs minus the 130.5 you come up with a weight of 309.5, and if you start to pack the truck with stuff, oh lets say 30 lbs, now you are down to 279.5.. Wow that’s not much is it?? I’m gonna go the extra step and get the spYder weighed at the scales in the next few days to get a 100 percent accurate scale weight cause I’m not sure what I am doing is actually correct, it don’t sound like it that’s for sure but I am just taking the common since approach on this one.. I will keep you posted..

Just a couple of things, first, the dry weight of a Spyder GS/RS is 697 pounds, then, if you add the nominal 130 for fluids, etc, you get 827 pounds, plus the carrying capacity of 440, the gross weight would be 1267 pounds. Subtract the difference in weight between the stock can and the Hindle, and you might get back down to around 1250.

Dry weights published for vehicles are alwys incredibly optimistic. The Spyder is no exception, in that department. To 697 pounds you have added about 60 pounds of fluids, but you have subtracted about 20 pounds of muffler. Other aftermarket and optional goodies generally add weight...lights, trunk liners, different seats, etc. The tools are also usually not included in the bare weight, and will add a few pounds. I know, it still doesn't add up to what anyone has actually weighed. Maybe it is the ape hangers? :D

I'm not sure what the need to know is, unless a person is racing under a weight classification...or the Spyder is being shipped. All Spyders weigh what the other Spyders of that model do, not counting any modification or accessory differences. I guess inquiring minds just need to know. :dontknow:

Maybe it is the ape hangers?

Thats funny Scotty.. Yah I know its really not needed but just thought I would tinker around a bit and came up with that to share to everyone.. Just having fun I quess. It was interesting to me though..
