• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

What's the spring for?

What is the purpose of the spring on the exhaust downpipe? It hooks between the downpipe and the cat converter. I'm assuming it's some sort of safety thing in case the clamp was to come loose. The reason I'm asking is because on the left side one of the loops the spring hooks into was not welded properly and came loose.

 Doesn't that spring hold things together?
I kind of thought that if you popped those springs loose; you could start disassembling things back there... :yikes:

Need springs

The springs keep the pipes together. The clamp puts pressure on the seal to prevent leaks. This is not a metal on metal joint like in your car.

Then I guess I'll be OK without one of them. With all the pipe hanger and a spring still on the other side it won't be coming down. Besides, the CAT bypass Y pipe from Spyder Attitude is much lighter than the CAT was. :)

One Spring Only

If you look closely at the parts diagram, there is a spring only on the right-side pipe. Part no. 26 in the diagram, only one required. I can vouch that my 2011 RT only has a spring on the right side and it came that way.

Now we need someone to explain the logic in that!!

I'm going out on a spring board here(pun intended). It's my understanding it is there to help maintain tension on the seal. Somewhere I read that at certain service intervals the nut should be tightened. Each helping to keep the aging gasket from leaking.

Ok then. I guess i fixed something that wasn't broke. Because when I installed my CAT bypass I thought I had lost the spring so I added one. :banghead: So now that the loop broke off and the added spring is not there anymore it's OK again. :gaah:

Have to agree..!!

We have an RS and it also came with one spring yet four loops. In the days of yore when they wanted the muffler to float due to pipes cracking from vibrations or quick changes they used no hose clamps. Now I think the spring just holds things together while you tighten the clamp..imo..:roflblack:
