• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Just noticed this today. Every. Single. Tooth. Has an abrasion. The picture makes it look like gouges, but it’s more like abrasion. But how is it EVERY tooth???

Are the gouges on the inside or outside of the belt ??

If it is on the inside, maybe the belt is partially riding on the flange.

Can you take a pic of the sprocket too ??
 
I had that on the belt on my 2015 and found a stone caught in the grove of the rear sprocket. I removed it and never had a problem with the belt for next 40,000 miles I owned it. That belt is still on the bike and working today with the new owner.
 
Small rock caught in one of the sprockets. Probably not even there any more. At some point every belt tooth passes over every sprocket tooth and that is why it is all the way around.
 
UPDATE . . . Found a hard blob of road tar stuck in the rear sprocket exactly in line with the marks on the belt. Knocked it out with a couple smacks with my hand on the end of a screwdriver.

Check both sprockets all the way around for damage or debris lodged between the teeth.
 
Check both sprockets. You may have picked up a small pebble or some other type of debris that has stuck on the teeth of one of the sprockets.
 
Glad you found the problem. And, don't worry about your belt. The damage is very minimal.... more cosmetic than anything else. Those belts are VERY tough.
 
How much play should there be in the belt when just pushing down on it? Should it be very tight, 1/4" or looser? Trying to get a general idea here.

Get yourself a Krikit II, and test it that way! 160-180 seems to be a good area to start at, with tire on the ground. Good luck

BikerBill, not sure about play when you push on it, but a twist of 45-90 degrees seems a common measure.

But only if you do it in the middle of the longest free length of belt between the pulleys Pete. ;)

I've seen some complaining about still needing to loosen their belts cos they couldn't twist it much at all just ahead of the rear pulley, only even with my damaged hands I could twist it almost 180° further along in the middle of the chord!! :shocked:

Pushing it up or down often won't move it enough to give you an accurate indicator of tension, while twisting it up to 90° will; but you've really gotta try that twist thing in the right place, or it might not be a good indicator either! :lecturef_smilie:

Just purchased a “new” 2018 RTL from a cousin who lives on a dirt drive. I’ve got the rear wheel off for tier replacement and noticed an almost identical mark on the belt. I have about 1/8 mile of gravel on my access road and always keep speed low on my “old” 2015 F3. As part of my upgrades to the RTL, I’m adding La Monster’s Missing Belt Guard. With my driveway and likely future Canada/AK trip(s) I’m betting that’s a wise addition.
