What should I look for in a mesh jacket? Any Pros & Cons?

This may take off like an oil thread  I use Tourmaster products and have been satisfied with them for many years. The fit of their products seems to be pretty true to sizing and I am comfortable in their jackets and pants. I have a Sonora 3/4 mesh jacket, a Transition jacket for cooler weather, and a pair of Venture Air 2.0 pants. These are all a few years old and the Sonora is over ten years old so model names may have changed. All have held up well. There are many good quality items out there and this is just my two cents on the Tourmaster stuff that I like. The Sonora jacket and the Venture pants allow a lot of airflow.

It fits well? ;)

I went with a Sedici Chicane Mesh Jacket and have been happy with it for warm/hot weather riding.
It comes with elbow, shoulder, and back level 2 armor pads.

check out helmethouse.com as they're the major dealer supplier of Cortech/Tourmaster/Alpinestars/Noru products. They also give current sales pricing. I recently bought a Shoei helmet from my local dealer and checked out some Noru products. The Noru Tabi mesh jacket looked pretty solid. sale priced at $80, plus maybe a bit less with dealer help.

BOHN BODT ARMOR. We are on our second jackets. Their "Mesh Armored Shirts" flow the most air of any mesh jacket we have ever had! Very soft, the top rated armor. Tom :spyder:

MESH

Lots of MESH

You want a nice comfortable fit. Zippers that can allow even more air in on arms, wrist and body. And a removable inner liner that can be used in rain or when you run into that unexpected temperature drop.

I really like my ICON AF mesh jacket. It has good arm and elbow armor and a large back armor insert. It also has straps on the arms you can adjust so everything stays close to your body without flopping around.
If I ever need another one, I'll go Icon again.

Some very nice Mesh m/c jackets can be had from Amazon for around $49. We chose not to go with heavily padded stuff. I know that is a violation of ATGATT, but when its warm, its warm. We were down to our bright orange or bright green t-shirts a few times. Helmets, long pants, boots, and fingerless gloves were always on though.

A calculated risk for sure, but we are still here and never were involved in an accident while we drove our 200,000 miles on Spyders. Let's not turn this thread into a safety rant, the poster wanted to know about safety jackets, pros and cons.

I'm a big fan of FirstGear stuff because they have actual TALL sizes that fit perfectly.

Everyone always thinks I must be dying in the heat with my black jacket on, but it allows so much airflow (full arm vents, openable chest vents and back vents) that with a slight sheen of sweat it feels like air-conditioning when I'm moving. I have their jacket and pants. Jacket is waterproof when zipped up, but the pants aren't (but they are nicely vented).

I am also looking for recommendations on a Ladies mesh motorcycle riding jacket.

What brands does anybody recommend?

Also any pros and cons.

I am tall.

There's been some good suggestions on this thread. I bet tour master would have a decent selection for the ladies. IDK.
I do know my BRP Ctalog has Woman's mesh jackets. Happy hunting.

I just noticed you are in Ohio. Take a ride to Iron Pony in Columbus and spend some time comparing. They will let you try stuff on and wear it around the store for a bit to help get the feel and comfort level of the item.

I went with a Joe Rocket in 2018, got it from DennisKirk.com it came with a liner that I have used in rain or when needed in cooler weather.
It made a difference riding through Death Valley in 2019, it is my daily riding jacket,
Plenty of air movement, but anything over 80 degree's F, it's warm no matter what

My old mesh jacket was falling apart after about 15 years. My problem in finding a new one is that I'm 6'4" and couldn't find a tall size in stock. I finally found a Joe Rocket mesh jacket in a tall. It seems to be good quality. It lets less air through than my old one did. But that is probably because it has more protective pads inside. So I guess that's a good thing. My only complaint is I would like another or larger zipper pocket to hold my phone. The liner has an additional pocket, but who uses the liner when its over 90 degrees!

Hi Dasmoetorhead,

Yes, there is some great suggestions on this thread. I'll take a look at The Tour Master website to see what they have for ladies mesh jackets.

OK. Thanks for your suggestions.

I wish mine had some kind of inside pocket. Also they aren't 100% the answer to Hot wx. Today was 90° out and on my ride I took my mesh jacket off and stuck it in my saddle bag, and continued on. I know ATGATT, but heat exhaustion is real. Then I got rained on. That was very nice. It totally cooled me down. I wear it as long as I can, but enough is enough.

When doing your price checking be sure to check with BajaRon. He doesn't say much about it but he carries a full line of moto clothes at great discounts. I don't remember what lines he carries. Also motorcycledave.com has all that stuff as well so call him also. I know we don't have ads here anymore but these two have been steadfast supporters of this site and they both have treated me very well.

As to mesh jackets I use a Joe Rocket Phoenix that I bought in 2002. It is the 1.0 edition. It has held up well and I ended up buying 3 more for my wife and 2 boys who were riding at the time.
