• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Can anyone tell me what kind of mileage they have experienced on their stock rear tire on their :spyder2: RTS? Mine is a 2011, and I'm running 26 PSI. CapNCrunch
 
I varies on each riders. Smoke brakes causes the most wear with out miles travel (STURGIS):roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:.

I didn't get but 12,000 on mine. I think I overinflated it on a cross country trip. I had it at 30 psi. the center was wore down and the edges were good. I was pulling trailer and two up loaded on the spyder. I think 26 or 28 would be plenty.
 
I average 15,000 miles across the board on all the spyders I have owned. Don't do burn outs or ride aggressively. I have replaced three rear tires so far.
 
I only had 7,000 miles when I was ready to re-shoe the RT...
The center section was wearing down quickly, and I was at season's end... It was an opportune time to make the change.
I probably could have gotten to 9,000 miles, but I didn't want to lay the bike up mid-season and lose riding time.

My new tire has 5,000 miles on it and still looks like new! (Falken ZE912!:thumbup:)
 
I got 19,000+ on the original but probably it had another 1000-2000 miles safely to go when I had it changed. We were leaving on a 2000+ mile road trip and didn't want to take any chances!:lecturef_smilie:

When mine got to the center wear bars I had 10,000 miles. Change it out just to be save.
I also put on tire pressure monitors that after the tires rotate the pressure. The build up at outside temp at 70 degrees is three pounds.
 
The OEMs are a real mystery to me...

There's got to be a good pressure in there somewhere... Probably the square of PI times 15% of the tire diameter minus the outside temperature, and then add back... :roflblack:

I only average about 10,000 on my rear tire. Got 18,000 on my first set of front tires and am still on my second set of fronts.

I lowered the pressure to 18-20 on the rear to keep it from wearing in the middle but it doesn't seem to help much.

I'm told the problem is that it's a two ply tire and at high speeds balloons out in the middle which causes premature wear in the center. Some people are using car tires on the rear but I'm not sure that's the answer. I'd like to see a 4 ply tire for the rear. BRP are you listening?

Have to agree..!!

Many variables in the life of any tire. Pressure, riding styles, weather, temperature etc. As to the middle wearing out fast, ever watch a drag racing rail warm the tires..? Those monstrously wide tires look like a Harley front tire when they let go. So unless you putter around town the center will go first...Sorry guys I have an RS with 4500 miles and the tire looks new and we ryde double up and even highway and freeway...:dontknow:

That seems to be the general concensus as to what's happening back there...
Remember though; BRP was looking for a quiet, comfortable, compliant and safe ride from these bikes... Kenda stepped up to the plate with a tire that worked...
 
We Need a Tire Sticky

The question of how long it lasts, what kind, what size, etc, is a recurring theme and to use the search you can spend all day. Won't some techie come up with a chart or something that folks could input to, and newcomers could go to, to find the answers they need. Personally, I'd like to see what brand and size tire everyone is using and how well it wears for future use.
 
Whew. I've gotten 8K out of my first two rear tires. Could push a little farther but not much. Now partway thru the third rear tire with a total of 20K on the RT. Not overly aggressive riding, always watch tire pressure carefully, and ride about 50% two-up, no trailer. I don't see how anyone is getting any more than that, certainly not the dramatically higher mileages quoted above. There must be some secret "perfect" setup out there somewhere...
 
Are you doing a very significant amount of running at SuperHighway speeds? Perhaps the "ballooning bug" is wearing your tires out? :dontknow:
 
I have to agree with Bob on the tire thing. Trying to s t r e t c h out tire life isn't worth it. Your life is worth more than a tire and believe me, Caskets cost more than tires..I changed my rear at 7,500 and have two new fronts ready to go on when necessary. I've been to the local dealership and seen some spyder owners pull up with scary rears...tires that is..
