• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

What is this part and where does it go?

I have found two of these in my toy hauler garage, one this week, and one two years ago, while hauling a 2014 RT. Where does it go? (quarter is for size comparison). I also found a (guess) m6x25 bolt at the same time.

They aren't the bushing ends off the bolts that go thru the windshield hinge points are they?? I'm pretty sure that the earlier Spyders didn't have bushes at each end of those bolts, but IIRC, at least some of the later models did have a bush in each end of each of the mounting bolts between the lifting arms and the windshield brackets, making them much easier to remove...

Mind you, most of the 'spare bits' I find in, under, or on the ground after working on someone else's Spyder are usually 'previously lost' things that someone has dropped into one of the 'Black Holes of Oblivion' that are scattered so widely around the Spyders, ESPECIALLY the RT's!! The holes under the dash cluster or under the bolts for the seat hinge at the back are prime examples of them - drop something into any of them, and it's fallen into a parallel universe or utter oblivion! 😖

And you can rest assured that anything put on at the factory received a more than generous slathering of that bloody yellow super glue/locktite crap they use far too much of, so I really doubt that anything came loose by itself!

So all that being said, unless you are aware that you've undone something and lost the bush or bolt before getting the Spyder back together, then it's almost certainly gonna be one of those items that's been dropped into one of the 'Black Holes of Oblivion' by you or some other person working on the Spyder and only now is it finally making it's way out of the parallel universe it's been hiding in since it was originally dropped, and making its way back to this reality - so it's extremely unlikely to be a major problem! Besides, if it is important, you likely would've known about it well before the bolt & or bush made its way thru the labyrinth - and most things just never do!!

Have you had any issues caused by something not being put back correctly on your RT since 2014? If not, then I'd suggest whatever was dropped was replaced whenever it happened, and you're just seeing the lost item or part of it now, after it's taken a significant time to work its way thru whichever hole it was dropped into, so your best bet is to simply:

Ryde More, and Worry Less! ;)

'Black Hole of Oblivion' has captured several parts while I have done a repair. Just a terrible thing. 😪

No problem just purchase the necessary parts and move forward.
A helpful tip: use several shop towels to help with flying parts. 😀

I have not lost any more parts
since I learned this.

Every time I sweep the floor of the shop, I find shiny items in the floor sweepings. Most of them are broken bearing cages, small washers, or some other small parts. I lose some bolt or washer, I just go to the bolt rack and get another one. Things roll a long ways on a smooth concrete floor. If I looked for every little thing that got dropped and disappeared, I would never get anything done. I work on a lot of different things, for myself and other people. It would be impossible to figure out just what the small part came off of. If it rolled under one of the toolboxes, it would not be seen again until the tool box was rolled to some other location. If I sweep up new bolts, nuts, or washers, I pick them out of the floor sweeping pile and put them back on the bolt rack. I do keep old paint cans around and try to drop the welding rod stubs and bolts that I cut off with the side grinder in the cans, but the stubs or broken bolts don't always hit the can, and I don't take off the heavy gloves, welding hood, and go looking for the ones that miss. They will turn up when I sweep the floor after whatever is in the shop is repaired and pushed out the door.

Like said above, if everything on the bike is working as it should and is in place and not dragging on the floor then you're doing good! If you found two of the same bushings and a bolt that would have held that something in place it should be flopping around in there!! The hinge on your seat is a good place to start, if someone dropped the bolt or bushings down that dark hole that was mentioned it's fair game for the spare parts ben. Good luck, I think you stumped the group!! 🙃

The area under the seat on my 2014RT used to suck up plenty of road dust. I filled all the holes with bits of open cell foam and the under seat area stays clean...
