What is the pull knob under the seat for? 2010 RS

Hi, I just bought the wife a 2010 Spyder RS and was wondering what the pull knob is under the seat? I can't find anything in the manual about it and tried to search it here and couldn't come up with anything. Also, the digital gauge went out on the bike, is there anything to ckeck for to try and fix it, or are they know to go bad? Thanks for any help on the 2 things.

I have an STS, but the knob unlocks the rear plate behind the seat. Small storage or you can attach the BRP optional backrest to it.

Yep. It releases the Sport Rack insert. The flat plate or the backrest.
