What is the more comfortable seat?

Okay, so the stock seat stinks! Is the new OEM comfort seat, the Corbin, or having a custom seat made by Bill Mayer or a Russell seat a better option? I am wanting to get this before I go on long trips, so I wanted to see what other people thought if they had one of these seats.

That is a very subjective question and you will probably get a lot of feedback. We have the Corbin seat with the wife's portion built up so she can see over my helmet. We completed a 13,624 mile journey this year. In 7.5 weeks we rode everyday except for 4 days...any day, riding 200-500 miles, stop and see, slow riding many times, just an unscheduled kind of trip. The Corbin was just fantastic! Each day was an adventure, each evening was restful. We were tired each evening, but not from discomfort, just the constant riding. Our ages, 65 and 51 really appreciated the Corbin and the other comfort features we had installed on the Spyder.

Dudley is right. Only you can make this call. To me the stock seat was the most comfortable I ever sat on, but to others it is horrid. My wife loves the new BRP comfort seat, but it make me squirm in just a few miles. Corbins are all like sitting on a concrete block to me (I have owned a couple), yet others swear by them. I liked the one Russell I had, but that was not on a Spyder. Best thing you could do is try to get to a Spyder get-together somewhere and sit on a few seats, with permission of course.

Then there is an "El Cheapo" like me who buys a $40 BeadRider seat pad and solved all my issues with the stock seat that way!!

I knew the Corbin wouldn't work for me because I like to sit right up forward on the seat on my seat bones as in riding a horse. So the stock seat was not bad except that it was too squishy. The BeadRider solves that as well as providing air conditioning for my butt!

I suppose something like Spencer Seats would be an option. But I don't want to send my stock seat away in order to have that done. So for now, I'm happy with my $40 seat beads!!

Like Scotty I have no issue with the stock seat. I've ridden for 7 hrs. with a few 1/2 hr. breaks thrown in. On the other hand, my gf can't seem to ride 2 up for more than 2 hrs. before she starts complaining her butt hurts. I think I will buy the beads for both parts of the seat and see how that works for my gf.

Like Dudley said, it's subjective as to what is the best seat. And, like Scotty said, the best way to pick a seat is by trying the various ones, if possible.

I have the Corbin on my Spyder, and it is FAR superior to stock - I also use the Beadrider ON IT, during hot or wet weather - that too makes a big difference (read cool and/or dry). I have the Russell on my LT, and it is a 600 mile a day seat. Since I would NEVER be able to ride the Spyder more than 300 miles a day, it's moot. BTW, I use the BeadRider on the Russell too.

I have the Corbin and am not that impressed with it, but I've never ridden on the stock so can't make a comparison.
The Corbin is definitely slicker. You slide around on it more in turns, and I tend to slide too forward and always have to push myself back.
But I was talking seats with someone on a stock, and he thought that sounded like a plus. He said the stock is so cushy you cant move and shift around so butt-ache sets in quickly.
So it's all in what you're looking for.

Really . . . . . .

. . . . it is Between your Butt and the Bike. (pun intended)

As far as "stinking", lets not go there.

I am not sure what kind of disagreements your butt and seat are having, or what you consider a "long trip" to be, but see if you can sit on any of the others that you are considering. A dealer may also have the BRP Comfort Seat installed on a floor model or a demo, that will give you an idea.

I think seats are like helmets, you just never really know until you have tried them out for a while under a lot of conditions. Too bad you can't rent one.

You may also find that things like handlebar risers or highway pegs will change your position and ergonomics - bad seats can become good and good seats can become uncomfortable or your butt is now good though your back is hurting. There are lots of options, but you are the biggest variable.

Stock was uncomfortable. I purchased the Corbin seat last year at Gatlinburg. I did several 300-400 mile rides on the corbin during the last year. It was better than stock, but I still would be in pain/uncomfortable after 75-80 miles. I ordered the Russell seat in July. We are in Gatlinburg this week. We had a long ride Wednesday, did the Dragon and the Cherohola Sky Way all in one day. We left here around 9:30 a.m. and did not return to the hotel until 8:00 p.m. I think it was around 5:00 or 6:00 p.m., I realized, "Hey, my butt doesn't hurt". I could not have done that ride on either the stock or Corbin and been comfortable or enjoyed the ride like I did on my Russell. I must admit that I like the looks of the Corbin better, and I do not have the option now of getting the Corbin Smuggler trunk, but I will be keeping my Russell.

I agree - it is all a matter of the butt.

I have the stock seat and have ryden 650 miles in 10 hours and never had an issue. Not sore, not numb NaDa. That was then but since that ryde I have installed the NMN risers and now I find that because of the new arm position the stock seat is not as comfortable.

I am not sure which aftermarket seat to get. I was hoping Mustang would come out with a seat for the :spyder2: but when I sent them and inquiry about it they told me they have no plans to make a seat for the :spyder2:. (I hope they change their minds).

I want something that will allow me to sit down into the :spyder2: better. I think my best option will be the Corbin - and I don't mind a firm seat. Just have other things that I want to do first.

With the stock seat, my wife could only go about an hour and a half. When we decided to go to the owners event in Los Angeles we knew we would need a new seat. I got the BRP Comfort seat installed the week we left for LA. My wife and I both had a great ride and she loves the BRP Comfort seat. But the others are right, you will need to sit on a few to find the seat that fits your backside. :D

I have the Corbin. It's O.K., but I tend to slide forward on it. For longer rides I use an Airhawk cushion. It is perfect. The Airhawk is pricey but it's worth it. I just lent mine to a customer that rode 1800 mies on it. He swears by it now.

I thought I was the only one to notice this. When we first installed the comfort seat, it was almost as comfortable to me as the stock seat, which I love. After the risers were installed, the comfort seat and I do not get along at all. Has to be the slightly different posture. As long as Nancy is comfortable, I am OK with it. I can always use my sheepskin.

Unfortunately, this is a matter that must be decided on an individual basis-as has already been pointed out. In my case, the OEM seat was OK initially, but I opted for the aftermarket Deluxe/Comfort seat. It made an immediate difference in my riding comfort-much better!:ani29:

2 weeks ago I took my stock seat with an already purchased LuiMoto seat cover I spent a fair dollar on [and wanted to keep] to a upholster and described what I thought needed to be done in order to make longer rides for my wife and myself more enjoyable. They recessed the foam so I would not get that slide forward feeling front and back and added foam and baton to it.Wow after trying it a few cruises of 3-400 km it feels so much better and the added bonus is I can still use my seat cowl when riding solo.Compared to the comfort seat I saved a big $$. It may be another option for some .:ohyea:

I've got a Russell with a rider backrest, best ride I've had. The stock seat was good for about 1 tank of gas, then a 2 hour break. I'll PM you.

Best Seat

After sitting on dtang's and her husbands seat at Lamonte's BBQ, we ordered our Russell with driver backrest in leather today, scheluded for prod 2nd week of October, having it Dual:2thumbs::2thumbs:

After riding with the stock Spyder seat and sitting on a Corbin, the BRP comfort saddle and the new RT saddle I still think my Russell saddle was the best choice for me.
