Last week the weatherman was calling fortemperature and humidity levels below normal for the upcoming weekend. Idecided I was going to go on a two-day road trip. After getting a thumb up frommy wife I threw some items into a motorcycle dry bag and headed out on Saturdaymorning. I live in southeast Missouri and my idea was to travel east throughKentucky and spend Saturday night in Danville, KY. I spent the summer workingin Danville when I was 19 years old. I had not been back since then. This weekendwould be a chance to ride on some new roads and see old haunts.
The roads from home to the Missouri-Illinois state line were familiar andwell-traveled. My feeling of adventure started when I crossed the MississippiRiver near Cairo, IL and then went over the Ohio River into Kentucky. Two largebridge crossings very close to each other. I was wishing I had some type ofvideo Go Pro device attached to my spyder because the view is great crossingboth large rivers. I didn’t get any pictures because traffic is busy and noplace to stop near or on the bridges. At this point I was on roads that myspyder had never traveled on (I had driven my car on them years ago).
I was just a few miles into the state ofKentucky when I came to a small town of Barlow, KY. There was a small storewith the name of Cedar Chips next to the Post Office. They had a wooden coffinset up, in front of the store, for people to get their picture taken (in oroutside the coffin)! Well, I had to stop and I took a few pictures fromacross the street. There was also a painted mural across the street and Itook a picture of it too.

The sign above the coffin says “5 dollars to take a picture, free when I’m not here”!
After that it was on to Paducah for lunch and a gas fill-up. Later, I was on a parkway heading east.
I don’t have much experiences riding on a parkway. I can’t think of any I have driven on in Missouri. However, I enjoyed the limited access and the green rolling hills. I noticed the traffic moved faster than the posted speed limit of 70 miles an hour. However, I never saw any Highway Patrol cars and more importantly none saw me going along with the flow of traffic (and may be a little faster).
My destination, that evening was Danville, KY, the county seat of Boyle County. I had spent part of the summer working here when I was nineteen years old. Many years later I was back to see if I could see the ghost of that cocky teenager hanging around on some street corner.

The site will only allow me to post this number of pictures on one post so I will continue the story on another post so I can add more pictures.
