• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Part 2 of my story.

I didn't see any ghosts but I did stir upmemories when I went to the place where I worked during that long-ago summer. It was at the Pioneer Playhouse. This theater was built by Col. Eben Henson andwith the help of his wife and family it has been putting on theater productionssince 1950. It was Col. Henson who offered me a job for the summer at histheater. I remember building sets and rehearsing for the next production whiledoing shows each evening for people under the stars at the oldest outdoortheater in the state. Other notable alumni actors that got some of their earlyexperience at the Pioneer Playhouse included John Travolta, Lee Majors, BoHopkins, and Jim Varney (who gained fame playing Ernest P. Worrell in TVcommercials and movies). I never met any of these actors because they all actedthere before I came along in the summer of 1976. However, Jim Varney was at thetheater for a couple of seasons; only two years before I did my one season of summerstock.

I highly recommend that if you areanywhere close to Danville, in the summertime, that you make plans to attend ashow at the playhouse. Be sure to check in early because their shows areprofessional, with talented actors, and the play can be sold out if you arrivelate.
The lady at the ticket window was kindenough to let me take some pictures before going in and watching the play.
Danville is also the home of the firstcourthouse in Kentucky and the first Kentucky constitution was written andsigned there. Danville was also the first capital of Kentucky. Here is apicture of the first wooden courthouse.

After spending the night in Danville, I headed home onSunday morning. Later, about the middle of the morning I saw a sign telling methat the home of bluegrass legend, Bill Monroe, was off on the next exit. Well, that sounded good to me. I thought I would get off my spyder and walk aroundthe grounds to stretch my legs. Unfortunately, after traveling on back roadsfor 12 miles, I found the road to his childhood home was blocked by a gate andtours didn't start until 1 p.m. I got this picture of the drive to his home andthe sign at the base of the hill.

Then back on the road. Later in the afternoon, I sawhighway signs that announced famous Bourbon distilleries on my ride home. Idecided to stop and stretch at the Maker's Mark distillery. I rode around theirproperty and then stopped and walked to get the kinks out of my legs andback. Then back on the road and home in the early evening tovisit with my wife and relax with my memories of a great weekend road trip.

I have to like the post of your weekend trip ... Danville, KY is where I was born and lived until I went to college in 1977. What a lucky guy you are to visit my old KY home ;).

I will be returning to that area in August for a family reunion at the KY Horse Park in Lexington and to Danville in October for my 40th high school reunion.

I enjoyed returning to your hometown for a short visit! I hope you have a wonderful time at your family reunion and high school reunion! I had my 40th HS reunion 3 years ago and I was surprised by how old my classmates were when I had not aged at all! lol.

akspyderman,

Thanks for the kind words. I worked on the post over two days and saved my writing on two different computers. I was in a hurry when I finished it and I didn't proof the final post. I'm surprised at the amount of mistakes, mainly spacing between words, that happened when I reposted the finished item to this site. I'm afraid multiple copy, saves, and reposts caused these spacing glitches. I should have spell checked the final post. I do know how to hit the space bar when typing! lol.
