• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Water Intrussion Problem with DESS Failure Code on 2015 RT Limited

Contact the BRP Rep on my post. They authorized the sealing of my wiring harness and the replacement of the DESS module. The mechanic at Pro Caliber put grease on the gaskets on the inside of the fuse boxes and battery box even though that was not the source of the water as the front trunk was dry. Also, he put sealant on the wiring harness at the back of the mentioned fuse boxes and battery box. I think this will fix the water intrusion issue. Finally he changed the DESS module to the updated one mentioned by other members. I put the bike in my front lawn and ran sprinklers for over an hour on the bike, and no water in the boxes or any problems after it sat overnight. The tech who fixed my bike suggested this. I am waiting for the next big thunderstorm in Bend to do the final riding test to ensure I am not stranded again in another state.

I would take your bike back your shop, have them review the forums and get authorization to have the back of the boxes sealed under warranty. Get approval first. Do not take no as an answer and deal directly with BRP customer support for the authorization before you waste your time dealing with a local dealer

Good luck and I will keep everyone posted of this design flaw issue.

So are you saying that BRP knows of this "design flaw", knows it affects many Spyders, and knows of the serious implications that it has (complete disabling of the trike)....but is not going to put out a Service Bulletin or Recall? That seems like totally strange behavior for a major company. I can't really contact the BRP rep on your post because his forum settings do not allow direct contact. I guess I could try calling and asking to talk with him by name, but that again seems totally strange that I would have to talk to a specific BRP Rep about it.

I had to take "no for an answer" because the answer I kept getting was no, no, no...it's not an issue. Directing them to this forum didn't do any good.

Totally strange stuff......

..:yikes::yikes::yikes::yikes: ..... You think that's strange .... I'll bet you didn't know that prior to 2014 the DESS module had 99.99% success rate ... So an engineer decided to fix that issue and designed the one we have now .... this one has about a 95% success rate ......and they call this PROGRESS :lecturef_smilie: .....NOT ....:gaah:..... Mike

I have my bike in the shop as I wright this. I have had the DESS error over several months but was able to turn the key on and off several times to correct the issue; However, Now the issue happens often and the bike may start after a couple of days then the next day I get the DESS error and the bike wont start. I am getting ready for a Spyder Ralley and am afraid to go for fear of the issue happening.

Does anyone know how I can get in touch with Customer Care at BRP

Your in TX...There is a forum member in TX that can turn your DESS off...go get it done and "live happily ever after" BRP will not allow their dealer to turn it off...They (BRP) will keep putting parts on your bike to hopefully get it fixed...But when you setting somewhere in the middle of nowhere and the problem returns it yours to figure out...BRP needs to allow this nightmare to be turned off if the owner requests it...

What is the down side to turning off the DESS?

WELLLLLLL NOW THAT YOU MENTION IT

What is the down side to turning off the DESS?
It might be SLIGHTLY easier to steal it ..... However putting a simple on / off switch switch anywhere in the power system ( of course don't Label it that way ) and this will defeat any thief .... Unless they haul it onto a trailer ....which can happen DESS or NO DESS ...... I plan to get rid of mine soon ..... Mike

In my opinion, there is no down side. Even with the DESS disabled, it would be very hard to start the bike. If someone wants to steal it, they are just going to load it on a trailer and take it. I disabled my DESS and never looked back! Another fix that might work and was posted on another Can Am forum, is spraying WD-40 in the inition switch. When I had my first DESS error, I tried it and it worked. Shortly after that I bought BUDS and disabled it. I cant say for sure the WD-40 was a cure, but it didnt hurt it.

Is there anyone in the western US with the equipment and know-how to do this?
