You guy's out there have a lot more knowledge on this Bluetooth, MP3, communicator stuff than I do, so here we go! Sitting here in Maine -7 outside thinking what kinds of stuff I would like to do to the RTL this year and was thinking I would like to be able to talk to the wife behind me and be able to listen to some tunes in my helmet with out the wires hanging all over. There are all kinds of stuff out there with all kinds of prices on them. Me I am a get the most for my buck kind of guy, and I like to keep it stupid simple! I know a lot of you have tried and tested all of this and I would love the learn from your knowledge! Thank you for your time! Mike

I only have experience with SENA headsets. They are easy to install and work well. My wife and I ride separate bikes and the range of intercom is important. We had the SMH-10 headsets and they were good until the 20s came out and had increased range. You may just need a basic set if you are on the same bike. We use our phones to store our music (we like different stuff) with itunes. The 20s also has FM radio and I use that around town. There is a dongle you can add to your bike to get tunes from your bike's radio but I have no experience with that. A good source of info with videos:https://www.revzilla.com/sena-bluetooth-communications and here:http://www.motorcycledave.com/sena-headsets/

Call me

You can do what you want, but cost will vary depending upon your wants. I’ve done it and I suggest you call me at 4808216636 or 6026255499 to discuss. I'm not selling anything, but best handled in a dialog vs. back and forth communications.

Mostly two...

Here you will see mostly two mentioned a lot. The Sena and the Scala. I have the scala G9 but there are upgraded model. I use it mostly for the phone, mp3, and intercom with the wife on the back. I have seen a very nice unit at zoozmc.com which may be my next one. There are many more out there if you want to look around.....

headsets

I have Scala"s for my wife and I. They work well and are easy to install. I can't talk about the other functions since I only use the intercom and cell phone features. I had some work done at a shop that does a lot of Harley's and they are impressed with the newest model Sena. They say it's a lot louder (which on their vibrating noise-makers they need) and has reduced wind noise. I'd say go to a shop that carries both brands and try both to see which feel and work the best for you.

Within the main brands, there are different levels of sophistication and prices. Generally, you pay more for more functionality, more BT range, more simultaneous BT connections (like to other bikes in your group), FM radio built-in, etc.

It doesn't sound like you need to pay for functions you don't need. Just get a basic BT model that will let you connect to another BT device besides your passenger's helmet. With that, you will be able to connect to your phone (for tunes), as well as talk to your passenger. Older communicators I've had required you to shout into the microphone to wake up the communicator, but modern ones don't seem to require that. Something to check out.

The SENA 20S will do exactly what you’re looking for. We have used them since 2014 and I like them much better than the Scala G9 that we had before.

+1 :agree: We have a Sena system purchased through MotorcycleDave and it's provided all we need for music and communication on the Spyder. I've spent the last 40+ years riding silently (well, except for a Kerker header or two) and now that we're long distance cruising, I do enjoy having tunes playing and my wife being able to tell me what she's pointing at. or Vice Versa....

Thank you oe and all!!

Thank you to all that got back to me on this one! My wife ad I ride separate sleds in the winter and years ago tried some communicators, what a #$%^ show that was. Us and another couple that we ride with thought it would be fun to be able to talk back and forth while we rode down the trail! All I can say it lasted one season, we would leave the house friends and want to kill each other when we got back to the house. The range of the units sucked, engine noise, wind, ect every thing! So when I post the question this morning I was wondering what I was going to get back! Got some reading and research to do!!:yikes:  Thank you one and all! Your the best, Mike

I don’t think the technology has improved much when you try to link 4 or more people together. The SENA works great if you leave the intercom open for two people but add in a third or fourth and it will drive you crazy. When we ride with friends who also have the SENA we just open the intercom for the group briefly then go back to our normal intercom pairing.

My wife and I ride tandem on our Spyder and use the Sena SMH10. I also have the radio bluetoothed to the SMH 10. The sound is pretty good tho notcar audio quality, but then you have a lot more ambient noise to deal with. We can hear each other quite well and the music is good enough for these old ears. I can also bluetooth my phone directly to the SMH10 and get music that way. We bought everything from motorcycledave. His prices are the best but more importantly especially with a new to you tech his customer service is the best also. If you you want to talk pm me and I will send you my phone number.

We Have

The wife and I have the Nolan B5s ( believe they are Senas though) They connect to other types of headsets if you want them to. We have not used them to their fullest yet I have them connected via BT to the garmin on the bike and to our phones etc. They seem like they handle the wind pretty good but we like them a lot better when the chin guards are installed Our dealer upgraded us to these for no additional cost. Our can am dealer sells Nolan helmets of course;) We love them

Dave
