• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Hi all,
First post, relatively new to the PNW and looking in earnest for the right RT to use as daily commuter between Whidbey and Seattle (slightly dreading the commute by car option, hoping that an RT might be a much more entertaining option)
Was wondering if anyone can tell me about their experiences with WSF riding a Spyder?

Do Spyders get loaded at the front with the MCs?
Are they charged as bikes, or "small cars"?

Thanks in advance!

Have traveled several trips have always been loaded so first to unload. Welcome to PNW. Gorgeous country and great ryding plus great SPYDERLOVERS in area.

Spyders are loaded as MC's, first but charged as a small car, but first on and off is worth the cost.

use the ferry a lot, always load in front with MC. they charge you for a motorcycle but up charge you for the 3rd wheel as a side car

Ferries

Just finished my yearly run from Spokane to the Puget Sound just to ride the ferries. In addition to the first on/first off loading, even a long line of cars waiting to get to the toll booth is no problem. Just ride past all the cars and insert yourself at the front of the line. I thought this seemed odd until I was waiting in line one day when a policeman on a motorcycle waved me out of the line and down to the booth. Since then I've seen many bikes cut the line. I once asked a toll taker if the "cutting in" made car drivers angry. She just shrugged and said that if someone was bothered, they could buy their own bike/trike. Needed to cut lines on two out of three loadings this past weekend. If a bike/trike is too late to load first, they will always find room on the back. You can safely ignore the warning signs about maxxed out ferries. The Port Townsend run is different. The run takes some open water with occasional spray over the bow. The crew puts bikes in the middle so they don't get salt water spray. The cars get it. Nice. Rides are getting pricey, but what isn't?

I went to San Juan island in May this year. Was told the RT was considered a small car and it cost 64.50 to get to Friday Harbor. That's the last time for that.

Used the Ferry's a lot while living on Bainbridge Is. for 25 years. Great system. Many times with M/C.

I lived on San Juan for 30 years and the ferry system is the main reason I left. No priority loading for locals and prices were getting stupid. Now you have to have reservations both ways.
