• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Was backfiring pretty bad today

Had a ride today - not the normal far away ones that we do. Didn't get out till around 1. I noticed last weekend it was popping just a little on decel but today it was worse. Purge value was done. Didn't smell any fumes. Was VERY hot to the touch on the left front after shutting down when we stopped for coffee.

Tons of popping today and it wasn't hot and humid out at all. Seemed bad in 2nd gear (around 30 mph) and in third - even when I hit 50 and would decel boy did it pop. 4th gear on the highway (going about 62 it would pop when I was keeping that speed).

Wondering if it's another blown gasket again. I had it changed last April or May I think.

Had the update done a while back and it ran fine and just now it's running crappy. Not ryding it any different.

HDX will look at it tomorrow. Also seemed to run flat - when I hit around 70, 5th gear it didn't seem to have as much Ooomph as it used to have.:dontknow:

SM5, 2 bros exhaust, 02 sensor (but that is bypassed now).

Don't know if this is your culprit or not, but you could have gotten a bad tank of gas. I started using only Shell or Sunoco for that last 3-4 tanks and my spyder is running better with a lot less popping and backfiring. Used to get Speedway but I think they buy from whoever has the best deal at the time and it may be good or not so good. Just an idea.

Yeah, HDX was saying the same thing and we gassed up today but I don't recall the name of the gas station. I had 3 bars left from last fill up and we added to it so who knows. It wasn't very enjoyable today though. Felt like I had to work at ryding it and it felt "unpredictable" - not the same ryde as I'm used to.

Hmmm....heat would indicate likely more than just bad gas...gasket could be a culprit again but that would be too soon...

For a minute I thought you were just going to tell us about some great Mexican food you ate......:roflblack:

I had the same thing happen when we were up in Georgia. The bike was running great until we filled up at the Circle K. Then the bike was backfiring, no guts, and running very rough and hot. Hubby put in some techron and some high test to clean it out. Ran much better after that. Ran the tank down to where the light came on and then some, and added gas from a station I trust. Bike just is intolerable with certain gas. Now hubby filled up at the same time with the same pump and same grade of gas, no problem. His GW didn't notice the difference. Mine just B****ed and complained the whole tank through.
Oh well

I'm thinking it's too soon for a gasket too but you never know.

HDX is going to ryde it tonight when he gets home from work - see if it's all not in my head.

Plus he'll pull some of the tupperware off to see if he sees anything.

Was running ok after the update though and that was done a while back.

Wish they didn't have a lock and key to the BUDS. Might have to get an extended warranty for that reason alone. Only dealers can see the codes thrown which means we can't do much if something were to go on it computer-wise.

You can read out the codes on bike display, and someone on here (sorry forgot who) can decipher the code.
