Looking to get back into the riding again and would like some advice on what model to purchase. I would like my wife to ride with me as we are in our late 50's. So Spyder owners who have their spouses riding with them he or she. We are interested in purchasing used not new. So please send us your thoughts on what model you would recommend.
Thanks again for allowing me to post.

If you liked your GW, then you'd probably like the full-featured RT model. Comes in two trim levels -S and -Limited.

Before 2014, they had the 998cc twin cylinder engine; 2014 to current is the 1330cc triple. I think there is general agreement that the triple is a better match for the RT's than the high-revving deuce.

Which Can-Am

Denis,

I am trying to help you. So...I looked up Wasaga Beach and found it to be around Quebec. Now, armed with that information, I hope our SpyderLovers in the Great White North will respond to you and let you meet them for conversation and a close-up look.

Oh, Canada... ( I love that song. )

See if you can find an RT
2011-2012-2014-2015-2016
you can't go wrong with any of them
you may find a standard shift but the
auto is great

My wife would tell your wife the the '13 RT Limited seat is THE MOST COMFORTABLE seat she's ever sat on a motorcycle, GW's and all. And She LOVES the heated Handles, when I'm cornering faster than she likes (When we first got it, we had no Sena headsets, I told her all she had to do to get me to slow down was tap both my shoulders, she's not letting go of those handles <G>.....).
In 11 months we're at about 10,000 miles together, more miles than all the 27 years together before the Spyder.
+1 on finding some local Spyder folks to connect with, a buddy brought his F-3 by and let us test drive it. Convinced us both we wanted a Spyder, just not a F-3 (the ride position wasn't for us, the RT's is).

Hello Denis:
Peterborough, ON, area here. Noticed you are from Wasaga Beach; not all that far away. You have two Spyder dealers nearby you, one in Midland, another in Barrie. They may be of some help; don't know anything about them personally, so can't advise there. Two very good Spyder outlets near me; one just outside Lindsay, the other in Uxbridge. Both highly reputable. Take a look on Kijiji, Ontario; you will find a fair number of used Spyders for sale all over Southern Ontario.

Most of the guys above are pointing you towards a good used RT, maybe something from 2014 onward with the 1330 engine. You'll have to make that choice (over the 998 twin engine). A newer bike will likely have less mileage and probably also some warranty left. You'll have to check anything out mechanically, and compare features as between models and add-ons. I ride a new 2017 F3 Ltd., and we do mostly two-up riding. It's turning out to be a great little machine for our shorter day tripping and occasional weekend overnight. There's a difference in ergonomics between the F3 and the RT. The newest 2017 F3L comes closest to duplicating some of the two-up touring features of the RT's. That is not so true of the earlier, more basic or sporty F3's. So, since you don't want to go new, I would agree with the others that you're probably better off simply looking for a 2 or 3 year old RT. But, you could always do a test ride just to see what the 'difference' feels like.

Let's just suppose you opt for a used RT. I did a quick look through Kijiji at available used bikes within a few hours' drive. There are a number of RT L's and S's listed. There are several 2014's with a year or two of warranty left, and anywhere between 20,000 km and 60,000 km on the clock. Asking prices for those are anywhere from $20,000 CAN to $25000 CAN. There is a listing in Dunnville for a pretty nice looking machine asking $20K, and negotiable. Slightly older bikes with the 998 twin seem to be asking anywhere from $14/$15K up to $19K. Been a while since I was really checking these out, but that will give you some flavour of the current market 'ask', at least up around S. ON.

Good luck in your search; maybe we'll see you on the road. We have friends in Collingwood, and made our first real road trip over to see them a month ago. Passed very close by Wasaga. Used to camp there years ago. Cheers.

Stop..!!

looking for advise and start looking for some test rydes... I'm not the one to advise you the wife and I are over 50, she a bit more and me a whole lot more, and even coming from a pieced together sport wing with flat bars sport seat and parts from crotch rockets we love the RS V-Twin. Now most I know coming form the wings are looking for a similar ryde but on three wheels. Therefore you will be looking for an RT 2014 or better...Happy hunting....

Test rides are the only way you will find out what YOU like best. Bring along the spouse if she is going to be your passenger.

Advice above on 2014 or higher RT model. You can get them in base, RT-S, and LTD. All are good. The 1330 engine is a bit better than the 998 configuration. I have one of each and prefer the 1330 over the 998.

Plan on spending about $13K and up depending on what you purchase. A new one starts at about $28K--and you can now hit $32K or so.

Let us know what you do.

Good that a Canadian member has offered good information regarding dealers in your vicinity. Regarding Spyder models it seems to me that the RT is best suited to your desires. Concerning year model, you'll have to choose between the 998 twin and the 1330 triple. Mine is a 2015 RT-S triple and I am completely happy with it. I bought it used with a mere 436 miles on the clock for something like $24,000 US. My wife has a 2012 RT Limited twin with 30K miles (about $13,000 US) and she is completely happy with it. I appreciate the smooth, relatively low revving triple and she prefers the higher revving (and better sounding) twin. But then she's a few years younger than I am - a veritable kid! The best part is that we ride more than we have in years and that's great.

After 25+ years riding Goldwings, I moved to a spyder. I was not interested in the V-twin and limited my search to 2014 or newer. Ended up buying a 2014 RTL with matching RT622 trailer. Still under warranty and I extended the warranty for another 2 years. The bike had 8,400 miles and I paid almost exactly one half price the entire package cost new. Very happy with the move but unlearning 2 wheel riding and learning 3 wheel riding does take some patience. We kept my old Goldwing in the family, which my wife rides. So, if I need a 2 wheel fix, it is there..... The 1330 triple does not have the power of the Goldwing 1800. The spyder weighs about 350 pounds more than the Honda and has a bit less horsepower. But the power is adequate. I don't think I would be happy with the smaller 998 engine.

Happy hunting.....

Wifey had been a passenger all those years on a variety of bikes (last 2 were Wings) but I wanted something she could drive so we went with a 2016 RTL SE6. She took her bike course and now drives the heck out of it with a huge smile on her face. WARNING - you might be looking at TWO Spyders if my experience is any indication.

Spyder Ryder now... CDN

Hi, my wife and I have had large cruisers of various models and a wing GL1500 Valkyrie.
in 2015 springwe bought a 2014 RT limited new. We love the ride, storage and over all package. I put larger F4 windscreen on and Baja Ron sway bar kit on it and now perfect for cruising. We now have 48000 km on it and love it.
